BOMOSEEN - Kenneth M. Boutwell, 74, of Bomoseen, died from heart complications at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, on Friday, September 17, 2010, with his family at his bedside.

Kenny was born November 15, 1935, in Castleton, Vermont, the son of the late Harry and Doris (Mitchell) Boutwell. Kenny was a master plumber and electrician and retired in the late 1990s. Kenny was an avid sportsman and began his racing career in the mid-'60s at the old Fairmont Speedway in Fair Haven. He built his own car and raced at Albany-Saratoga and Devil's Bowl Speedway, ending his racing adventure in the late '70s. He was very proud of all the wins and championships he achieved.

He enjoyed playing music with his long-time friends, and friends he acquired along the way at the bluegrass festivals throughout the years.

He was a member of Lee Lodge #30 of Castleton for more than 50 years and had served as past master of the lodge on multiple occasions. The Masons were a huge part of Ken's life, he worked hard for Masonry and always told them to do it by the book "the way Masonry teaches us." Hence, his voice echoed the wishes of most past masters in this respect.

Kenny spent the last several years traveling to Florida in the winter months where he enjoyed the company of friends and spent a great deal of time mastering Sudoku.

Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Michelle (Patterson) Boutwell; his children include daughters, Gail Bruno and her partner David Shaw and Bridget Sheldrick and her husband Jacob, all of Bomoseen. His sons include Russell Hurley and his wife Lynda of Sabattus, Maine, Patrick Matthews of Rutland, Ellsworth Matthews and his partner Julie Beebe of Bomoseen. Kenny has seven grandchildren, Jodi (Hall) Silva, Angela (Hurley) Marechaux, Tara Hurley, Lyndsay Hurley, Hunter Matthews, Blake Sheldrick and Cohen Sheldrick; also seven great-grandchildren, Bridget, Emily and Porter Silva, Justin, Hallah, Taelyn and Ahnaly Hurley. Kenny leaves behind lifelong, loving friends, Donald and Patricia Ballantine, Jimmy and Dale Coombs, Lou and Tish Senecal, Harold Senecal, Ducky and the entire Damanski Family of Syracuse, N.Y.

Kenny was predeceased by his son, Michael Boutwell, brother Delbert Boutwell, grandson Justin Hurley and his dear friend, Frank Damanski.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, September 20, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven. Lee Lodge #30 will conduct fraternal services on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at the Boutwell home on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at 12:00 noon, with Rev. Scott Caggige, pastor of the Wells Spring Church, officiating.

Family and friends are invited to join in celebration of Kenny's life immediately following the service at their home.

Rather than flowers, memorial contributions in Kenny's memory may be offered to the Lee Lodge #30, Castleton, VT 05735.
