Jane Goodenow, d. of John and Jane Goodenow, purp. bapt. Feb. 16, 1633 [Bishop's Parish Transcript] at Semley, Wiltshire, England. If so and more correctly interpreted, she was bapt. Feb. 16, 1633/4. At age 14 she emigrated with her parents bound for Sudbury, Mass. on the ship "Confidence" of London, John Gibson, master, which sailed from Southampton, England on the last day of April 1638. She d. By early 1652, Jane m. Henry Wight, s. of Thomas Wight and his 1st wife Alice, b. on an unknown date at England. No actual record of their marriage can be found in a published town or church record. He d. as Sgt. Henry Wight Feb. 27, 1680/81 at Dedham, Mass. They had five child b. of record at Dedham, Mass. and outlined in their father's memorial.
Jane (Goodenow) Wight's father d. of record Mar. 28, 1654 at Sudbury, Mass. In his nuncupative [verbal] will dated Mar. 2, 1653/4, Jane's husband Henry Wight was named executor and the will was presented to the probate court by Henry Wight on May 5, 1654. Henry Wight also gave oath on May 24, 1654 regarding the estate inventory taken on Apr. 11, 1654. In the will, Jane (Goodenow) Wight was to receive one-half of the estate upon the death of her mother, who d. at Sudbury on July 15, 1666.
That Sgt. Henry Wight and wife Jane both d. at Dedham prior to 1700, it is assumed they are interred at the Old Village Cemetery at Dedham where the earliest interments have no record of specific location or extant gravestones.
