from cousin Mike Meloon 24 July 2005:

During my recent trip to New England, I stopped at the Rockingham County Courthouse in NH to look over the land records. Interestingly, I found two land records under Enoch's name. One is apparently misnumbered since I could not find the deed. The otheris contained in book 106, page 449, in which Enoch Meloon of Portsmouth sold to Joshua Avery of Stratham a certain piece of land in Stratham. The deed is dated 30 January 1775 and although the land is defined by the lands surrounding it, also included is the statement"... four acres and one half of land situate in said Stratham, being one half of nine acres of land which my father, Joseph Meloon, Jun'r. purchased of the heirs of Jude Allen...". Joseph Meloon, Jr. was the son of Joseph Meloon who was the son of Luke Meloon who married Hannah Clifford in 1677 at Hampton. I also found a deed in York county, ME in which a group of persons, including Mary Meloon, widow sold a parcel of land in 1813.
