HANS MITCHAM who was born at Meningie, on Lake Albert, South Australia in 1912 has had a long association

With the Flinders Ranges. In 1936 he became a schoolteacher at Lyndhurst, and he later taught at several other Flinders towns. He has been closely associated with the study

of the history and the natural history of the ranges ever since-so closely, in fact, that one of the Pre-Cambrian fossils found at Ediacara has been named after him.

Mr. Mitcham, who is married and has a son and two daughters, was Curator of Information and Education at the South Australian Museum until his retirement in 1976.

 

 

BILL WALLS was born at Bairnsdale, Victoria, in 1940. He completed the Art Diploma and Trained Technical Teachers Certificate in Victoria, and taught art and craft for

four years. He joined the Australian Broadcasting Commission and worked as graphics artist in Melbourne, Rockhampton and Adelaide. In 1972 he left the ABC to become

a freelance artist. After travelling in Tasmania, Victoria and Queensland doing topographical sketches, he settled in Clarendon, South Australia. He and his family travelled

overseas in 1974, visiting galleries in Canada and Europe. He has executed several commissions for Rigby Ltd.
