MIGRATION: 1635 on the Hercules (on 14 March 1634/5, "Tho[ma]s Hayward of Aylesford in Kent, tailor, & Susanna his wife, "with children "Thomas," "John," "Elizabeth," "Susan" and "Martha," were enrolled at Sandwich as passengers for New England on the Hercules [NEHGR 75:219]}.

viii JOSEPH HAYWARD, b. say 1646; m. (1) by 1673 Alice Brett (eldest known child b. Bridgewater 15 December 1673). daughter of WILLIAM BRETT [1639, Duxbury] (in his will of 25 November 1681, "William Brett Senior of Bridgewater" included a bequest to "my grandchild Joseph Haward" [PCPR 4:1:106-71]); m. (2) by 1682 Hannah Mitchell.
ix MARY HAYWARD, b. say 1648; m. about 1668 Edward Mitchell {"and lived with her forty years without children" [TAG 59:31]), son of EXPERIENCE MITCHELL [1623, Plymouth} [GMB 2: 2:1270-73]).
ASSOCIATIONS: Either Thomas Hayward or his wife was related in some way to Peter Town of Cambridge. In his will of 28 May 1705, "Peter Town of Cambridg[e]" ordered that "when my wife dies or ceases to be my widow then the whole estate shall be divided among my five first cousins living at Bridgwater, viz: my cousin John Howard, my cousin Nathaniel Howard, my cousin Joseph Howard, my cousin Elisha Howard & my cousin Mary Mitchell" [MPR Case #22,675].
