xiv. NATHAN, b. 25 Jan. 1717; d. Nov. 1798 at Falmouth (Diary of Benjamin Percival shows an entry of 29 Nov. 1798--"Yesterday Nathan Gifford buried"--Pilgrim Notes & Queries); mar. 29 Sept. 1740 MERCY3 (ROBINSON) WEEKS (the clerk noted that Gifford had given a certificate (to John Otis, J.P.) stating that he "took sd Mercy naked of any estate that was her former husband's, Jonathan Weeks" (Falmouth Town Records, 1:226). She was b. ca. 1720, d. 15 Aug. 1792. The Falmouth Church Records show: 8 April 1742, "Mercy Gifford, wife of Nathan Gifford, propounded for full communion . . . and Jabez Weeks baptized, ye son of Mercy Gifford which she had by her first husband Jonathan Weeks, Junr." (ibid., 1:18,19). Nathan and Mercy (Robinson) (Weeks) Gifford seem to have had but one child: Mercy4 Gifford, bapt. 16 Jan. 1742/3 (ibid., 1:23); d. 10 Dec. 1785; mar. 2 Sept. 1762 John4 Weeks. They had several children of whom a son, William Weeks, mar. 7 Dec. 1780, Mary Gifford, dau. Reuben4 Gifford (#51).".
