William Curtis

1John D. Baldwin, Why the Origins of Nicholas Camp, Sr. of Milford Remain Elusive!, The Connecticut Nutmegger Vol. 30, p. 62 (1997).
"Over time, contradictory baptism dates for Nicholas Camp, Sr. of Milford, CT have been circulated, and an incorrect maiden name claimed for his wife Sarah.
Sarah was not an Elliott as believed by many. The 1621 will of Bennett Elliott (NEHGR 48:396, also Genealogical Gleanings in England II:904) reads "my trusty and well-beloved friends William Curtis, my son-in-law, Nicholas Camp the younger, and John Keyes...". It is obvious that Curtis was Elliott's son-in-law, supported by published Curtis family material. Unfortunately transcripts of the will have been circulated among Camp descendants and others with an omitted comma resulting in "friends William Curtis, my son-in-law Nicholas Camp..." giving rise to the erroneous belief that the son-in-law was Camp.
