"2. JOHN2 SCOTT*, of Providence, R. I., was born in 1640, and died in 1677, is said to have been shot by an Indian while standing in the doorway of his own house at Pawtucket Ferry. He married REBECCA ---------, who died after 1701. She married secondly, 15 Apr. 1678, John2 Whipple, of Providence, born 1640, died 15 Dec. 1700, son of John and Sarah Whipple, by whom she had two children.
John and Rebecca Whipple, on 26 Aug. 1679, leased for four years to Alexander Balkcom, of Newport, all the tract of land and meadows lying upon the south side of the pawtucket River, near the former dwelling of William Blackstone (deceased) of Rehoboth, being formerly in the possession of John Scott of the Town of Providence, and agreed "to Sett a house about 20 foots in length upon the land" [Prov. Town Papers, 0281].
Although John Scott's will is referred to in deeds, no known copy is in existence.

iii. MARY, b. 1 Feb. 1666; d. after 1734; m. JOSHUA2 DAVIS, miller, d. 8 Jan. 1736, son of Aaron and Mary Davis, of Newport, R. I. On 8 Aug. 1695 Joshua Davis bought of edward Hopps and wife Mary, of East Greenwich, R. I., land, houses and fruit trees, for £14. Rebecca (Scott) Whipple assigned, 3 July 1699, all her interest in the above deed to her daughter Mary Davis, wife of Joshua, and her heirs, said Joshua to have life interest. On 31 Aug. 1725 Joshua mortgaged his homestead at East Greenwich to his brother-in-law, John3 Scott, for £480/11.
Capt. Sylvanus3 Scott declared, 30 Aug. 1726, that upwards of twenty years ago, his mother Rebecca (Scott) Whipple, gave him a deed of 1694 to keep, and that he had it in his possession until about two years ago when he delivered it to Joshua Davis.
On 14 Jan. 1734, Joshua bought of Edward Scott, of Newport, Schoomaster, for £567, houses, buildings, and 77 acres of land in East Greenwich, and a warrant was given against heirs of John Scott, late of Newport, deceased.

"(II) Joshua Davis, son of Aaron Davis, was born in 1665; married Mary Scott, who was born February 1, 1666, and died in 1734, daughter of John and Rebecca Scott. Joshua Davis was a miller and owned land at East Greenwich. He deeded his grist mill to his son Jeffrey in January, 1733. His will is dated May 27, 1734. Children: William; Aaron; John; Rebecca; Katherine; Samuel; and Jeffrey, mentioned below.".
