Mr. Doane's first wife was the daughter of George Godfrey of Eastham. In childhood she became a member of the family of Mr. Thomas Galley, and continued with them until her marriage, receiving all the attention that foster parents could give. When Mr. Calley became aged and infirm, Mrs. Doane and husband gave him their kind attention and as a token of his appreciation of their kindness and for their promise "to keep and provide for him during life," he gave them all his estate by deed, June 27, 1697-8.
