"WILLIAM HOLMES3, of Pembroke and Halifax, Mass., son of Josiah Holmes and Hannah2 Samson (Henry1), married Bathsheba Stetson and had nine children: William; Hannah; Simeon; Hezekiah; Zebulon, died unmarried, before his father; Molly, died young; Lydia; Jane; Zilpha.
William Holmes3 died 13 May, 1760, in his 81st year, and his widow, Bathsheba, died 30 March, 1763, in her 70th year, according to the records on their gravestones in Halifax.".

"William (3) Holmes (Josiah 2, William 1), b. in Duxbury, Mass,. Jan. 18, 1679-80; m. in Pembroke, Mass., Nov. 22, 1715, Bathsheba Stetson, b. Sept. 29, 1693, daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Oldham) Stetson. He resided in that section of Pembroke, which was later laid off as Halifax. He died about 1760, and on June 2 of that year, "William Holmes, late of Halifax having deceased, Robert Waterman of Halifax is appointed administrator."
The will of Bathsheba Holmes, widow of William Holmes of Halifax, is dated Dec. 25, 1762; proved Apr. 4, 1763. She gives to son William Holmes a cow. To sons Simeon and Hezekiah Holmes eight shillings. To my dau. Hannah Bears (Bearce), the wife of Joseph Bears . . . ; to my dau. Zilpha Holmes . . . ; to my dau. Elizabeth, the wife of my son William Holmes . . ; to my dau. Jane Holmes, the wife of Capt. Ephraim Holmes (John 4, 3, 2, 1) . . ; Noah Cushing, of Halifax, executor.".
