"(I) Edmund Rice, born in 1594, in Birkhampstead, England, was a proprietor and selectman in Sudbury in 1639. He probably came to New England in 1638. He had a house lot on Old Main street near Mill brook.

He married (first) in England Tamazin, who died June 13, 1654, and (second) Match 1, 1655, Mercy (Heard) Brigham, widow of Thomas Brigham, May 3, 1663. His children, all born to the first wife, were: Henry, born in 1616; Edward, born in 1618; Thomas, born probably in England; Matthew: Samuel: Joseph, born in 1637; Lydia (married Hugh Drury); Edmund; Benjamin, born May 31, 1640; Ruth (married S. Wells); Ann, and Mary.".
