William Sargent

1Darius Sargent, The New England Primer and Notes on the Descendants of William Sargent, NEHGR Vol. 10, p. 184 (Apr. 1856).
"William Sargent was one of twelve men who commenced a settlement at Ipswich in 1633. He soon after went to Newbury, and in 1638 or '39, he, with several other residents of Newbury, with the Rev. Stephen Bachilor, commenced a settlement at Hampton. (Coffin's Hist. Newbury, p. 29) He soon after removed to Amesbury, at that time a part of Salisbury, where he remained through life. He was one of the original townsmen or commoners of Amesbury, and had several lots of land assigned him at different times. He was one of the selectmen in 1667. The name of his wife was Elizabeth. [Was she a daughter of John Perkins? -- Hist. and Gen. Reg., vol. 7, p. 357.] They had two sons and several daughters. He died about 1675, aged 73. -- Hist. Newbury, p. 317.
Thomas2 son of William1 and Elisabeth, b. 11th 4 m. 1643, m. Rachel Barnes 2nd, 1 m. 1667-8. They had several children. he died 27 Feb. 1705-6.

"(II) William Sargent, son of William Sargent (I), was born at Salisbury, November 21, 1645, or January 2, 1646. Married, September 23, 1668, Mary Colby, of Amesbury. They resided at Amesbury, where he died in 172. He was a farmer and held various town offices. He took the oath of allegiance and fidelity December 20, 1677, at Amesbury, before Robert Pike. His estate was administered in 1712, at Salem. Children 1. William, born April 19, 1669. 2. Philip, born August 12, 1672. 3, Charles, born January 31, 1764, mentioned below. 4. Child, died young. 5. Jacob, Born March 13, 1687.".
