He m. Jean, da. of Robert (SEMPILL), 3d LORD SEMPILL [S.], by his second wife Elizabeth CARLYLE. He d. April 1581.

WILLIAM (SEMPILL), LORD SEMPILL [S.], 1st s. and h. by first wife; suc. to the peerage [S.], 9 Sep. 1513; Justiciary of the Regality of Paisley; P.C. to James V, and one of the nobles who, 25 Aug. 1543, assented to the proposed match of Queen Mary [S.] with Prince Edward of England. He m. firstly Margaret, 1st da. of Hugh (MONTGOMERY), 1st EARL OF EGLINTON [S.], by Helen, da. of Colin (CAMPBELL), 1st EARL OF ARGYLL [S.] She, who was b. about 1480, d. before 2 May 1523, before which date he m. secondly Elizabeth, da. of (---) ARNOT, of Arnot, but by her had no issue. He m. thirdly Marian, da. of Hugh MONTGOMERY, of Hazelhead, but by her had no issue. He d. about 1550. His widow m. John CAMPBELL, of Skippinche, and was living in 1556.(a).".
