"(II) Deacon Isaac Cummings, son of Isaac of Ipswich and Topsfield, born in 1633, married Nov. 27, 1659. Mary, daughter of Robert and Grace Andrews. He resided in Topsfield, and was elected deacon of the church June 13, 1686. He was an influential man of the town, and served as selectman, treasurer, constable and tithingman. He was made a freeman in 1673, and in 1675 was impressed for the Narragansett expedition. He died in 1731. His children were: Isaac, born Sept. 15, 1664; John, June 7, 1666; Thomas, June 27, 1670; Mary, Feb. 16, 167-; Rebecca. April 1, 1674; Abigail ; and three sons that died in infancy.".

"2. JOHN CUMMINGS (Isaac1) married Sarah Howlet. She was a daughter of Serg't Thos. and Alice (French) Howlet, who was a commoner, 3 Mar. 1634, Repr. 1635, granted a house lot in Woburn, 1635, purchased 40 acres there, 1637, serg't 1643, ensign 1646, had one share and a half in Plum Island (Ipswich) 1666, and died, 1668 (78?) ae. 79. His wife, Alice died June 26, 166-(6?), and he left a widow Rebekah, who died in Newbury, Nov. 1, 1680.

iv. Sarah, born Jan. 28, 1661, married Dec. 24, 1682, Lieut. Samuel French, son of Lieut. William and Elizabeth French, of Billerica, Mass. He was an early settler of Dunstable and one of those who formed the church there. Their children were born in Dunstable:

2. Samuel, born Sept. 10, 1685, died Nov. 4, 1727.
3. Joseph, born Mar. 10, 1687, married Elizabeth Cummings, (4, iii).
4. John, born May 6, 1691. A Lieut. John died in Dunstable Mar. 1761; 7 children born there.
5. Ebenezer, born Apr. 7, 1693. Killed by Indians Sept. 5, 1724, at Naticook, a Lieut. and in command of fourteen men at the time, in pursuit of a party of Indians who had captured two men the night before.
6. Richard, born Apr. 8, 1695.
7. Alice, born Nov. 1699.
8. Jonathan, born Feb. 1, 1704. Dea. Jonathan did Nov. 17, 1757.
