"John Hastings, Esq., of Elsing, Gressenhall and Weasenham, Norfolk, Fenwick, Yorkshire, etc., de jure Lord Hastings, Captain of Saint-Lo in the Cotentin, Constable of Norwich Castle and goal, Sheriff of Norwich, 1474-5, son and heir by father's 1st marriage, born about 1412 (aged 26 in 1538). He married by papal dispensation dated 21 April 1434 (they being related in the 3rd and 4th degrees kindred) Anne Morley, daughter of Thomas Morley, 5th Lord Morley, de jure Lord Marshal (Descendant of King Henry II), by Isabel (Descendant of King Henry I), daughter of Michael de la Pole, Knt, 2nd Earl of Suffolk....They had three sons, Hugh, Knt., Edward, Knt., and Robert, and two daughters, Isabel (wife of Thomas Bosvile) and Elizabeth. They were mentioned in the will of her mother dated 3 May 1464. His wife Anne died in 1471. John Hastings, Esq., died at Elsing, Norfolk 9 April 1477. He and his wife were buried in Gressenhall Church, Norfolk."
