1Annie Arnoux Haxtun, Signers of the Mayflower Compact, pp. 63-65 (1897-1899).
"JAMES, OF NEW LONDON
James Rogers, as has been stated, came to America in the Increase, 1635, aged 20 years. The first knowledge of him is at Stratford, New Haven County, Conn., where he married Elizabeth, daughter of Samuel Rowland, their oldest son, Samuel, benefiting by his naming, for he received from his grandfather, Rowland, according to Savage, a large estate.

JAMES ROGERS
Obit. 1688,
Elizabeth, His Wife.
----------------------
Whatever his birthright, James Rogers had the spirit of his and every epoch of the world where the man owned the ability, to seek large business interests, and, being of strong stock, he succeeded.
His small dealings with New London "grew and multiplied" until he had to seek a broader field for his workings, and went permanently to New London, the home of Governor Winthrop, of Connecticut, and Jonathan Brewster, between 1656 and 1660.
Before leaving Milford he recorded himself, for in 1644 he was "informed against for bad buskit and flower, and if after that his flower or bread was bad the damage would fail on him."
