Does anyone out there have any information about Thomas James b ca 1740-50 in NC or VA? He had son, William James b ca 1775-80 in NC. I believe they were in Pitt Co, NC at one time. William James md Clarissa Smith b 1780 NC. They moved to Cannon Co, TN at some time (were also in Warren Co, TN, I believe). They both died in Cannon Co, he in 1840 and she in 1858. Their descendants later found in Crawford Co, AR. Would love to hear from those of you researching this line or anyone who has a clue on where I should search for these Jameses. Thanking you in advance for any and all input.Carolyn Hodges

(b. abt 1784 GA)(d. abt 1850 Perry Co., AL) m. William RADFORD (b. abt 1782 VA) in 1804 in Oglethorpe Co., GA. They named their sons: Elisha, George W., John W., Rueben and William T. Radford. I am looking for ancestry of Nancy Elizabeth JAMES. Welch Neck area of SC has many JAMES families. Gregg's History of the Old Cheraws said that a Rev. Elisha THOMAS' daughter, Sarah, married Daniel JAMES and moved from PA/DE to the Welch Neck in SC with the Baptist congregation about 1746. Could this be my connection? I will be glad to share! I hope to connect to the Fauquier Co James' since so many other James genealogists seem to have researched that line so well. But, for now, my James connections are over in Berkeley County W. Va and Frederick MD. I'll keep trying though, because my ancestors and some of those with Fauquier County ties, both ended up in the same small Illinois County in the mid 1800's. SO I think there probably is a connection, but not confirmed yet. Thanks again. Bill James

Looking for any information on my great grandmother, Lucinda JAMES, She was born in Bosque, Clay County, TX on 2 October 1863 and died 1 February 1885 at the age of 21 yrs in Jack County, Texas. She was married to Albert Douglas Elkins. They had two children: Eva May Elkins born 8 Sept 1882 and Alvin Elkins born 31 December 1884 in Jack Co. TX. He died only a month after Lucinda. Her husband remarried and moved away from those parts. My grandmother never knew anything about her mother's people. James D. James (Click to find out more on James D. James) I noted a recent posting and visited your homepage, and am writing to tell you what little I know about my Virginia James'. Have only recently discovered the Virginia roots, and am excited about learning more, as I understand Virginia records are pretty good. The earliest records I have found of my Virginia ancestors is from the following book: (I also think I have located James D. James and maybe one or two of his sons in VA census index, but have not really been able to confirm this.) I don't know any relationship of James City County or Franklin or Patrick Counties to Prince George Co. Charles F. James was my GGGrandfather. He moved to Hopkins Co. Texas, before the war, and the James descendents lived for many years in Hopkins Co (some, I am sure still live there). My grandfather moved to Kimble Co. early this century, and my father and I were both raised there. Obviously, I would like to learn more about James D. James and Mary Foster James. If you see any ties to your James line, please let me know. I also have a lot to learn about genealogy--I don't have a program that can read and display files like your gedcom file; can you suggest one that I should get and use. I assume there are a lot of shareware programs out there; would like recommendations about which are easy to get and learn to use. What do you use to write that file? Or, do you have that information in ASCII text that you could mail me?I use a shareware program called OnDisplay (or something like that) to keep my data, but I don't think it is capable of writing data in GEDCOM format or reading other databases.Regards, Ray W. James
Do you have any more information about Rev. Daniel James who was born on June 2, 1789 in Culpeper County, Virginia and married Ann Nancy Graves on June 2, 1789? I have her birthday date as January 15, 1771 in Culpeper County. She died on May 15, 1840 in Boone County, Kentucky. Daniel died in December 1845 in Boone County, Kentucky. Her parents were John Graves5 (John Graves4 - Thomas Graves3 - Francis Graves2 - Captain Thomas Graves1 who is listed on the Jamestown, Virginia marker as a member of the first House of Burgesses.): There children were: Mary (married ______ Garnett), Sarah (married _____ Beckers), John G., Henry F. (married Frances Garnett), Maria (married _____ Hickerson), Ann (born May 2, 1802, married Robert Powell, December 20, 1821, died May 16, 1887 in St. Mary's, Illinois), and Eliza (married _____Jones).Daniel James preached at Culpeper churches: Jeffersonton (1809 - 1811 & 1818 - 1822) and Bethel (August 1822 - March 1823). Thank you. Carol Chew

I am looking for information about a James James who was probably born in 1760. I do not know where. James married a Girl named Mary. I do not know her maiden name or where they were married...possibly in Bourbon County or Green County, Kentucky. Sometime in the 1790's James & Mary moved on to a 100 Acre land grant on the East fork of the Big Barren River in what was a part of Barren County and is now Monroe County, Kentucky. John died about 1799 to 1801 leaving Mary with five children: John, Abraham, James, Lettie and Mary Ann. John, Abraham, James and Lettie together with their spouses and children migrated to High Point, Missouri in 1826. John and James married the Bray sisters..Rachael & Sarah. Lettie married a Caleb Kelly. I do not believe that Abraham married until after the family had re-settled in Missouri. If anyone knows anything about this branch of the James family I would appreciate hearing from them. I would appreciate your help, and will share with you, if you desire, the information I have about the descendants of James after they arrived in Missouri. Sincerely, Dorsey Roe, Jr
You mention four James families in Faquier Co. during the 1700's. I have a James ancestor who I think may have hatched - of course, I thought that about his son for a while, so perhaps there is hope. I am back to a Samuel James, born in 1748 - who knows where? I do know that he married a Rachel Hass (Haas??) 30 Jun 1770 in Amelia Co., and that their son, Isaac James married Abigail Riggs 11 Jun 1796 in Bath Co. Have you run across any Samuel James of the correct vintage? Another thought that recently crossed my mind: If someone erred (me??) and Rachel's name was Haas, rather than Hass, she may well have been German - could his name have been altered from some German spelling? Any thoughts/help? bob harter
I am George James, age 71, been researching this line since 1947. I am descended from one Samuel James, Welch, who arrived in NC. probably by way of Philadelphia. I have solid and extensive connections back to Samuel, who had 4 sons, Joshua, Jacob, Isaac, and Enoch, and a daughter, Sarah, who married one Richard Rogers and promptly disappeared. I know little of the descendents of Joshua, but can follow descendents of Jacob and Isaac to the present. Enoch is not known to have had issue. Will be happy to share anything I have, preferably by sending a 3½" disktte with GEDCOM file to anyone interested. This family settled in the Cape Fear/Wilmington NC area, extensive records and documentation available. I noticed that James is in your name. My name is Barbara Ellen (James) Rowe. Below is listed a bare list of my James line. Either way I'd like to know if you are of the same line. If so, I have information going back to 1630 when they came over from Whales. Benjamin Edwin James m. Jean Florence Dwinelle Calvin Bernard James m. Cala Viola Robinson Benjamin Franklin James m. Mary Olive Crispin I enjoyed browsing thru the Okla - Garfield area. My grandmother, Ora Wauntia (Chancellor) Dwinelle Helberg was born in Indian Territority in 1894, I believe in Enid. My father Benjamin Edwin James was born in Vera, Oka. His parents were from Kansas and Iowa and Wisconsin, then the line goes back to Virginia, and Pennsylvania. My husband's, Mike Rowe, mothers family comes from Okla. That family line is Kilgore, and her grandfather, Henry Washington Kilgore was a U.S. Marshall and we did find a picture of marshalls on the internet with him and Dick Ransom in it. Laura Emaline Ransom married into the Kilgore's. One of the Ransom's was a councilman in Okl - I forget just what city it is at the moment. They come from Andrew Jackson Ransom who was a Confederate Soldier and was from Arkansas and Alabama. Barbara Rowe
