Do you think you could help me find this place so that I may begin some kind of research of her and her family prior to coming to the U.S. I would be grateful for your time and effort. PRETSCH / HANUSCH -My mother's family came from Troppau, Austria, which is now Opava, CZ. Her father's name was Franz PRETSCH. He married Wilhelmine HANUSCH. They had 6 daughters, Anna, Hedwig, Stephanie, Minnie, Elfrieda and Mary, and one son, Joseph. He came to America in l906, and the rest of the family came to US in l907 on the ship Franklin. I have pictures of a church in Morowitz and Kretzberg (Catholic) where the children were baptized. A friend took these pictures in the last l0 years and said there was no one around when they were there. There is a cemetery at the church where there were PRETSCH stones, but the names were not very clear. I would like to know where I can obtain copies of documents such as birth, baptisms, etc. for my mother, aunts and uncle, and the marriage cert. for Franz and Wilhelmine. They settled in Texas, and still have children there, but they do not have any information such as this about them. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. This is a difficult name to find. The name of a town (I believe) of Neutitschein was mentioned in some papers I have, stating that that is the name of the place they came from. Thanks. Would be happy to share what little information and pictures I have with anyone interested in this family name. Edna Wakeham 26 Jan 1998

TOMAN / JIRIK / SIMONEK -Hi, I am looking for information about my grandmother and grandfather: James TOMAN and Anastasia JIRIK.  They were both born in Chicago, Illinois.  He was born in 1878, she in 1886.  I know nothing about either one of them, except that he was a "machinist."  They were Roman Catholic, I believe, as they had their son Edward Rudolph (my father) baptized at St. Genevieve Church in Chicago in 1908.  At the time of my father's birth, James TOMAN was 30, Anastasia was 22.  My father was their second child.  His brother, William, was 2 years older.  Their address at the time of my father's birth was 3415 W. Grand Ave., but the year after my father was born all the streets in Chicago were renumbered.  I cannot find any cemetery records (we believe they were buried at St. Adalbert's in Niles, IL) because the records at that time were kept according to calendar date.  We have no idea when they were buried.  I believe James TOMAN died when my father was 6 years old...around 1914.  We don't know when Anastasia died, except it was before my father met my mother, which would have been around 1930.  Another oddity:  my grandfather's name on my father's birth certificate is James TOMAN, but on the baptismal certificate (3 weeks later) he is listed as "Vincent" TOMAN.  After James TOMAN's death, Anastasia remarried several years later, we think about 6 - 8 years later, but we don't know what her new married name was.  She had a sister, Kate, who married James SIMONEK.  They had no children.  We don't know if James TOMAN had any siblings.  Any information would be most appreciated!   Janet Toman Warren 27 March 1998
