QUERIES for 1998

My Greatgrandmother came from this town(Fricoce) in Czechoslavakia and I have no idea where it is. My great aunt had visited this place back in 1958 and this was the country it was in at the time. Do you think you could help me find this place so that I may begin some kind of research of her and her family prior to coming to the U.S. I would be grateful for your time and effort. PRETSCH / HANUSCH -My mother's family came from Troppau, Austria, which is now Opava, CZ. Her father's name was Franz PRETSCH. He married Wilhelmine HANUSCH. They had 6 daughters, Anna, Hedwig, Stephanie, Minnie, Elfrieda and Mary, and one son, Joseph. He came to America in l906, and the rest of the family came to US in l907 on the ship Franklin. I have pictures of a church in Morowitz and Kretzberg (Catholic) where the children were baptized. A friend took these pictures in the last l0 years and said there was no one around when they were there. There is a cemetery at the church where there were PRETSCH stones, but the names were not very clear. I would like to know where I can obtain copies of documents such as birth, baptisms, etc. for my mother, aunts and uncle, and the marriage cert. for Franz and Wilhelmine. They settled in Texas, and still have children there, but they do not have any information such as this about them. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. This is a difficult name to find. The name of a town (I believe) of Neutitschein was mentioned in some papers I have, stating that that is the name of the place they came from. Thanks. Would be happy to share what little information and pictures I have with anyone interested in this family name. Edna Wakeham 26 Jan 1998

(like Alexander Beider's Dictionary of Jewish Surnames). My family was Roman Catholic and left Bohemia for Lodz in the early 1820's but I don't know where in Bohemia to start looking! The family names were WAGNER and GRYZEL/GRYZA/GRUEZEL or KRUESSEL. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Brian Tosczak 29 Jan 1998
