Czech Republic Lookups
Czech Republic Reference Books and Lookup Volunteers
If you own any Czech Republic books and will do look-ups, please
let
me know. Currently, there is no listing of volunteers to do lookups.
Volunteers are needed.
Feel free to request a look-up from the following books. Please limit
your request to one name per request. Please put CZECH REPUBLIC LOOKUP
in the subject line of your request to insure the message is not overlooked
or accidently deleted. In the first line of the message please put the
name of the book you are requesting the lookup in.
If you request a lookup, please thank your volunteer for his or her
time.
I have the index of obituaries for the Denni Hlasatel, a major Bohemian
newspaper published in Chicago, Illinois, from around 1871 through 1995.
I am willing to do look ups for people who think their relative died in
Chicago. The information given is name and date of death. After getting
this information, the person would have to order the newspaper via microfilm
on inter-library loan from either their local library or from the Illinois
State Historical Society in Springfield, Illinois. Contact Elinor
Kerklingh Svihla.
I have a number of books and may be of some help, as long as you won't
overwhelm me with too many requests. I am pretty busy with the International
Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences of which I am President.
With your interests you ought to become our member. You can find us on
the Web on the following address:

I have a book that contains ONLY Czech census records for Decatur
county, Kansas. The book was created as part of the Ethnic Heritage
Studies program at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas in May, 1979.
The title is "Early Pioneer Families In Decatur County,
Kansas" by Lillian Shimmik, however, the census records included
cover only the Czech settlers. I believe the book is out of print. Pat
The Czech Census records in the book are:
United States Census of 1880, Decatur, KS
Kansas State Census of 1885, Decatur, KS
Kansas State Census of 1895, Decatur, KS
Kansas State Census of 1905, Decatur, KS
Kansas State Census of 1915, Decatur, KS
(Please do NOT inundate Pat with requests. Like most of us, Pat works
for a living.)

Dictionary of Bohemian Parishes in the Czech Republic
This contains a complete listing of about 16.000 locations in Bohemia
(and a few special ones adjacent to Bohemia) which still have Roman Catholic
church records deposited in Czech archives; even if records were previosly
entered in another parish ("Vorpfarre") this is noted, as well as the locations
of a further 800 independent mills in the districts of Plzen (Pilsen) &
Litomerice (Leitmeritz) were added. A distinctive numbering system indicates
the archives which house the respective records. For technical reasons
the Czech accents had to be omitted.
-
Register of Vital Statistics in the Czech State
Archives Pertaining to Bohemia in
2 parts
All the Roman Catholic and Protestant records in the 6 official archives
of Bohemia are listed, indicating the respective time spans, as well as
whether
any of this has been filmed. The distinctive numbering system coincides
with the one used in my "Dictionary of Bohemian Parishes in the Czech Republic.
For technical reasons the Czech accents had to be omitted. Part 1: the
archives of Litomerice (Leitmeritz), Plzen (Pilsen) & Trebon (Wittingau).
Part 2: the archives of the City of Prague (Prag) , Prague district and
Zamrsk.

Register of Jewish Vital Statistics in the Czech
State Archives Pertaining to Bohemia
All still extant Jewish records of Bohemia are listed in a distinctive
numbering system indicating the time span involved; in addition to this
also
all Roman Catholic records containing Jewish vital statistics are ennumerated.
For technical reasons the Czech accents had to be omitted.

Gazetteer of the Former Galicia & Bukowina
To the about 12.000 localities already listed in the official 1885
register another 4000 place names were added, including Christian denominations
as
well as whatever Jewish communities existed. A general map showing
all the judical districts as well as the present political entity localities
are
assigned to, will greatly facilitate discovery. Also included is a
CD ROM, containing 121 individual maps in a 1:75.000 scale and a 120 dpi
resolution, which can be utilized by anyone with a "Windows" program in
their computer. For technical reasons the Polish and Ukrainian accents
had to be omitted.

Records of "EXULANTEN" (Protestants
persecuted for their religious beliefs) deposited in Preßburg (Bratislava,
Slovak Republic)
Austria´s "Exulanten" did not only flee to Germany but also to
Hungary (Preßburg/Bratislava & Ödenburg/Sopron). This volume
analyses about 3.600 Protestant nuptials, celebrated in Preßburg/Bratislava
between 1627 and 1660; whenever possible the origins of the couple are
given. In
preparation. Contains an index of grooms and brides.
