Border

These are some of the places I like to spend my time on the Internet. Check 'em out!

RootsWeb

This is the biggest free genealogy site on the internet. Want to connect with a surname mail list? Want a free genealogy web site? Want to search through millions of pages of online data? Want to connect with others searching your lines? Then this is the place to be!

Cyndi's List

The gateway to everything related to genealogy on the net. This is a megasource of links to other sites. Very well organized and constantly updated. Hosted by Rootsweb, by the way.

Family Search

The incredible genealogy site sponsored by the Latter Day Saints. Millions of names in their database, free and inexpensive software and an online catalog make this one of the very best sites on the web. Newly updated and better than ever.

Ellis Island

Did your family immigrate through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1924? More than 22 million people passed through these gates during that time period, and this site has them. A fantastic web site to visit.

The US GenWeb Project

If you are researching ancestors anywhere in the United States, you must go here! A great starting point for research at the county level. A great resource for census transcriptions, query boards, vital records, and on and on. Yet another RootsWeb hosted site.

Campbell Co., TN - US GenWeb Site

Oswego Co., NY - US GenWeb Site

Jefferson Co., NY - US GenWeb Site

Smyth Co., VA - US GenWeb Site

The Farmington Genealogical Society

If you have ancestors in Farmington, Oakland County, Michigan, this is a good place to visit. There is an index of 7,000 individual names that they have information on.

GHat

The best place on the Internet for Hatfield genealogy.

Ancestry.com

A massive commercial site which includes subscription access to all of their databases. They are well on their way to having images for the entire U.S. census 1790-1920 online, as well as many indexes.

Heritage Quest

Another huge commercial site, though most of its resources are available through libraries.
