Benjamin(21) and Ann Reading married in Great Kimble, Buckinghamshire.

Benjamin Huckell (age 36) arrives in Canada with wife Ann Reading (38) and eight children: Benjamin (15), Thomas (13), Sarah Ann (12), William (11), John (9), Elizabeth (6), Lucy (5) and Joseph (3). The family takes up residence on a farm in Hull, Quebec.

                    Joseph (4) dies and is buried in Hull. 1860
Benjamin(38) and family move across the river to Ottawa and run the Prince of Wales Hotel, an inn and tavern, on Cathcart St.

1861
Benjamin(39) is the proprietor of the Kingston Inn, an inn and tavern, located at the corner of York and Dalhousie.
Clara Louise is born.
Benjamin Jr.(18) is a miller living in the Chaudiere district of Ottawa.

                    Clara Louise (1) dies and is buried in Hull.

                    Benjamin Jr. (21) and William (17) listed as boarders at the Kingston Inn

1866
Benjamin Jr (23) marries Catherine Starmer of Ottawa.
Thomas (21) is living at the Kingston Inn.
William (20), a compositor for The Evening Post, also boards at the Inn.

1867
Thomas (22) marries Elizabeth Cleverly of Ottawa and moves to Rideau St. He is co-proprietor of "Angus & Huckell", a shoe manufacturer and retailer. William (20) leaves Ottawa for Chicago where he starts his own print shop.

1868
John (19) boards at Kingston Inn. Benjamin (47) moves to the town of March Corners to run another hotel and to farm with wife Ann and three daughters. William (21) marries Emily Frances Anderson (23) in Chicago.
                    1869
                    Benjamin Jr. (26) opens a flour & grain store on York St.
                    John (20) is a salesman for "Angus & Huckell", Thomas' business
                    and lives with brother Benjamin on York St. 1870
A major fire in August destroys much of the March township area including March Corners.
John (21) a salesman for "T. Huckell" boards with Thomas (25) at 7 Rideau St.

1871
Benjamin (49) and family have moved back to Ottawa, to Duke St. in the Lebreton Flats area following the 1870 fire, and works as a letter carrier.
Son John (22) moves back in with family. He is unemployed.

1872
Lucy (19) marries John Wesley Cross (24), the son of the owner of their Duke St. home.
John (23) opens a boot shop on Duke St.
Benjamin(50) and Ann (52) move back to York St.

1873
Sarah Ann (27) marries Arthur Begg (24). Arthur is a stone mason from Arboath, Scotland.
Benjamin (51) & Ann (53) move to Slater St.
Thomas (28) has switched from boots to brick manufacturing.

                    Benjamin (52) & Ann (54) move to Sally St. 1875
Benjamin (53) & Ann(55) move to Lisgar St. Later in the year Benjamin buys a cottage on Bank St.. He will remain at this address for the rest of his life.
John (26) still has boot shop on Duke St.
Benjamin Jr. (31) gives up the flour & feed store and becomes proprietor of the Feathers Hotel on William St.
1876
Benjamin Jr. (32) dies.
Thomas (31) suceeds him as proprietor of the Feathers.
1877
Elizabeth (26) marries Richard Niles (24), a printer from Cobourg, Ontario.
John (28), now a bartender, boards at his place of work on  Rideau St.
Thomas (32) is a bookkeeper at the Ottawa Citizen newspaper.

1878
John (29) a steward on the Empress steamer.

         
          1880 Catherine (Starmer) Huckell (32), widow of Ben Jr., leaves Ottawa for     western Canada.

1882
Benjamin (60) occupation listed as gardener.
Thomas (37) is an advertising agent for the Ottawa Citizen.
John (33) owns the Terrapin Saloon & Restaurant in Ottawa

1883
Ann Reading (63) dies.
Thomas (38) leaves for Manitoba in the spring with his family.
Elizabeth (32) & Richard Niles (30) moves into Thomas' house.
John (34) is proprietor of the Terrapin Restaurant.

1884
Elizabeth (33) & Richard Niles(31) live with Benjamin on Bank St.

                    1887
                    John (38) marries Harriet Sophia Benedict (29).

                    1888
                    Elizabeth (37) & Richard Niles(35) move to O'Connor St.

                    1889
                    John (40) is proprietor of the Brunswick Hotel, a major hotel in Ottawa.
