Alfonso X "el Sabio", rey de Castilla y León also went by the name of Alfonso X "the Wise". Alfonso X "el Sabio", rey de Castilla y León also went by the name of Alfonso X "the Learned".4 He was born on 23 November 1221 at Burgos, Castile, Spain.5 He was the son of Ferdinand III "el Santo", rey de Castilla y de León and Beatrix "die Jüngere" von Schwaben.1,2,3,4,5 Alfonso X "el Sabio", rey de Castilla y León was the successor of Ferdinand III "el Santo", rey de Castilla y de León; King of León.6,7 Alfonso X "el Sabio", rey de Castilla y León associated with Maria Guillén de Guzmán, daughter of Guillen Nuñez de Guzmán and Maria González de Giron, before 1242.1 Alfonso X "el Sabio", rey de Castilla y León garrisoned Murcia pursuant to treaty negotiations between the crowns of Castile and Aragón (Pacts of Tudilén, 1157; Cazola, 1179) in 1243.8 He completed the submission of Lorca, Mula, and Cartagena in accordance to the treaties in 1244.8 He married Violante de Aragón, daughter of Jaume I, rey de Aragón and Iolande, Hercegnõ Magyarország, on 26 November 1248 at Valladolid, Spain.1,9,3,10,11 Alfonso X "el Sabio", rey de Castilla y León had the so-called "Alphonsine Tables" prepared under the direction of Jehuda ben Moses Cohen and Isaac ben Sid for him in 1252. These tables were based on the Ptolemaic theory, which assumed that the Earth was at the centre of the solar system. They enabled astronomers to calculate eclipses and the positions of the planets for any given moment.12 He was a witness where William de Montagu summoned to attend the King, Henry III, into Gascony, against Alphonse X, King of Castile, who had usurped the province after 1252.13 King of Castile and León at Spain between 30 May 1252 and 1284.5,6,3,4,7 Regent of Germany between 1254 and 1266. Alfonso X "el Sabio", rey de Castilla y León was nominated for succession to the crown of the Holy Roman Empire in 1256.14 Holy Roman Emperor between 1258 and 1275.14 Styled Alfonsi Dei Gracia Regis Castelle et Tolexti, Legionis, Gallecie, Hyspalis, Cordube, Murcie et Giennii (Alfonso by the grace of God king of Castile, Toledo, Leon, Galicia, Seville, Cordoba, Murcia and Jaen).15 He had to call upon his father-in-law James I of Aragón to subdue the territory of Murcia, which had rebelled, a second time the result of which was that the kingdom of Murcia, although remaining within the Crown of Castile, was to become culturally hybrid in 1264.8 He was a witness where Jaume I, rey de Aragón helped his son-in-law Alfonso X of Castile to suppress the rebellion of the Moors in the Kingdom of Murcia between 1264 and 1266.5,8 Alfonso X "el Sabio", rey de Castilla y León renounced the title of Emperor on the urging, for separate reasons, of the Pope and his nobles in 1275.14 He was a witness where Sancho IV "el Bravo", rey de Castilla y León led a revolt against his father, in an attempt to usurp the throne otherwise belonging to his late older brother's son, who should have succeeded per the strict hereditary rules of Siete Partidas, in 1282.14 Alfonso X "el Sabio", rey de Castilla y León was usurped by his son and an ignominious deposition by the Castilian Cortes in 1282.14 He died on 4 April 1284 at Seville, Spain, at age 62 years, 4 months and 12 days. Alfonso X the Wise, always had a certain affection for Seville which the inhabitants returned manyfold, especially in the final years of his reign. The NO8DO symbol on the city's coat of arms is an heraldic pun in Spanish, with the 8 representing a skein (madeja) of wool. Thus the device reads: NOmadejaDO, more or less Spanish for "you've never abandoned me" (no me ha dejado). Seville's heraldic device par excellence is therefore testimony of Alfonso X´s great esteem of his Sevillian subjects' loyalty.1,9,2,5

Sir Hugh de Cailly of Owby was the son of Adam de Cailly and Mabel (?).2 Shown in the Charlemagne Pedigrees as son of Adam/Osbert de Cailly and Emma de Tattehall, descendant of Charlemagne. Burkes says it's disputed who married Emma, Osbert, or Osbert's son Adam, but it is clear that Adam's son, Edmund, did not inherit any of the Tatteshall estates, and so Adam was probably not her son. Burkes does show Osbert, married to Emma, as the BROTHER of Hugo of Owby, which my line clearly is. The Charlemagne Pedigrees takes two brothers, Osbert and Hugo, as shown by Burkes, and makes the first the father of the second.2,1 Of Owby at Norfolk, England.2,3 Also called Hugo.2 Sir Hugh de Cailly of Owby married Agnes de Hansted, daughter of Hamo de Hansted.1,3 Sir Hugh de Cailly of Owby died in 1286.3
