While conducting my genealogical research, I have extracted data from numerous New Jersey records. These pages contains marriage, birth, and death information on members of the DOTY/DOUGHTY FAMILY in New Jersey, many of whom are descended from Edward Doty of the Mayflower. It is essentially limited to vital records in Essex, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren Counties from 1795 until 1867, although there are a few records from earlier and later periods.

The records from which the extractions were made varied greatly in quality and readability. I have done my best to avoid errors in both interpretation and transcription but I am sure that some exist. I advise everyone to make a personal assessment of the referenced sources before accepting this material as factual.

MARRIAGES: All marriages involve one party with the surname "Doty" or a variation thereof. Variant surname spellings are grouped together and all individuals are listed in alphabetical order by given names.

BIRTHS: Births are presented in alphabetical order by surname and then alphabetically by given name within each surname group. In the early days of Civil Registration many births were recorded without a name or gender indicated for the child. Those without a name or gender specified appear in the list with "(child)" treated as though it were the given name. Those unnamed children with gender specified are listed as "(female)" or "(male)" in a similar manner.

DEATHS: Deaths are presented in alphabetical order by surname used and then alphabetically by given name within each surname group.

Where positive identification could be made, each listing is referenced (the EAD# in the Notes Column) to individual numbers in The Doty-Doten Family in America , by Ethan Allen Doty, which is the basis for much of the Doty lineage accepted by the Mayflower Society.

Some of the referenced entries will provide names of spouses or dates and places of marriages that supplement information in The Doty-Doten Family in America . Other entries will provide only source documentation for items already included. Those items, which are not cross referenced, may be of interest to individuals engaged in further researching of Doty and Doughty families.
