Frequently Asked Questions

How can FhGS afford to pay for such a data intensive website?
Actually, FhGS pays only for the www.foothillsgenealogy.org domain name. All of the files, photos, etc. that you see here are compiled, transcribed, and/or edited by our hard-working FhGS member-volunteers. The cost for the services of a professional web designer are covered by the incredibly supportive Jefferson County Public Library system and the server space and support are provided by the wonderful folks at RootsWeb.

Does FhGS have a newsletter?
Yes, and The Inquirer, too! Our newsletter is issued five (5) times per year and is only available to members. The Inquirer containing genealogical and historical information about our four counties is provided to members bi-annually in Spring and Fall. Back issues of The Inquirer can be ordered from FhGS - click here to find out more

How can I join FhGS?
Just print out the application form and mail it to us along with your payment. Click here to learn more

Where can I learn more about upcoming FhGS classes and events?
Check our Programs + Events page for details on all scheduled activities

Isn't there an easier way to get to your website than typing the whole RootsWeb address?
You bet! Just type "www.foothillsgenealogy.org" into your browser's address box. Better still, save it to your browser's Favorites category!

How can I share my local family history and genealogy info with FhGS?
Our bi-annual publication, The Foothills Inquirer, frequently features articles about interesting families who were pre-1940 residents of Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson or Park counties. If you would like to see your family or family member featured in such an article, contact the editor who will present the information to our committee for consideration. If your topic is selected, the editor or one of the committee members will work with you to create an interesting and informative article. Final editing will be at the discretion of FhGS.

How can I find out if FhGS has any info on my family or relatives?
Click here to learn more about our research services.  If you still have questions, e-mail our genealogist who will get back to you with more information.

How come I get no results when I enter a search but I can find what I'm looking for when I manually look for the same thing?
Are you looking at a newly added data file? If so, be aware that our search engine only re-indexes twice monthly, so it may take a few weeks for newly added names or files to show up in our automated site-wide search.

What can I do to help FhGS get even more data online?
Become a member and volunteer to help with data transcription, picture-taking, or whatever else suits your fancy and skills.  We always enjoy seeing new faces and are happy to help new volunteers learn the ropes!

I found a broken link or other problem with the website - Who should I tell?
Please help us to stay up-to-date with always changing and growing online resources by sending an e-mail to our webmaster about any problems with operation of the site. You are also welcome to send along links that you think might be useful to other researchers for inclusion in our Links list.
