Joel F. Vaile, lawyer, was born at
Centerville, Wayne county, Indiana, March 14, 1848; a son of Rawson and Anne E.
Vaile. Later with his parents he removed to Indianapolis, and subsequently
to Kokomo, Ind. After the usual course in the public schools, young Vaile
entered Oberlin, (Ohio), College where he was graduated in 1872. In that
year he engaged in teaching, and in 1976-78 he had served as Prosecuting
Attorney of the Thirty-Sixth Judicial Circuit of Indiana, and in 1880 was an
Indiana delegate in the Republican National Convention at Chicago that nominated
Garfield for President.
Mr. Vaile came to Denver from Indiana in July, 1882, and began practice here.
His ability as a thorough lawyer immediately commanded recognition, and he
formed a partnership with Judge J.A. Bentley which continued until 1885. In
that year he became associated with Edward O. Wolcott, and the legal firm of
Wolcott & Vaile has continued without interruption since that time.
Mr. Vaile has won special distinction in his profession for his learning and
ability in corporation and railroad law. During the past fourteen years he has
been General Attorney for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad Company, and is
also the legal representative at Denver of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy
Railroad Company.
