Trails to the Past: Bent County, Colorado Vital Records

Vital Records for Bent County

Vital Records contain all the information we need to document our ancestors and family members: Birth Records, Marriage Records, Death Records, and Divorce Records. Most of these records have only been kept since the early 20th century by State Governments. In some cases, records were kept by the county for earlier dates. In the case of Bent County, for example, the County Clerk has marriage records from 1886. Keep in mind that Bent County was not organized until 1874. If you are looking for records prior to that date, check Greenwood County. Since Otero County was formed from Bent in 1889, if you cannot locate your family in Bent County after that date, be sure to check Otero County. We'll have a page online for that county soon.

We're hoping to locate some of these records to include here on this web site. If you have access to any vital records, please consider transcribing those and donating them here. Contact me at [email protected] if you can help.

Bent County Marriages

I am starting the ball rolling with some marriages from my family research. I will be adding more as time allows. Please note that I probably do not have much other information on my submissions. My husband's direct ancestors went to Washington state in the late 1880's, so any marriages after about 1888 are more than likely "cousins."
