Notes on Charles Ansley Armstrong and Sybil Chute Armstrong:

Sibyl, b. Oct. 13, 1824; m. Charles Ansley Armstrong (son of Frank and Mary Barnes, widow of Joseph Gilliland), Jan. 5, 1843, and lived over twenty years on Digby Neck. In 1865, they moved to Minnesota and settled in Brown Co., but since 1880 they moved to Mariaville, Rock County, Nebraska."

Obituary, Sybil Baxter Chute Armstrong

Sybil Chute, daughter of Calvin and Maria Chute, was born at Digby, Nova Scotia, October 17, 1823, and died at Raymond Minn., Aug. 19th, 1919, aged 95 years, 10 months and 2 days.

The second of a family of eleven children she was the last to cross over the river.

lt was in Digby, Nova Scotia in 1842 she married Charles A. Armstrong, and in 1869 came to Mankato Co. Minn. where they lived about a year, moving from there to Albin Township, Brown Co. where they resided many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong were the parents of nine children, of which two have preceded the mother to the better land.

The living are: Mrs Henrietta Gilland of Sleepy Eye, Mrs. E. J. Foote of Raymond, Edward Armstrong of Sleepy Eye, Hanford Armstrong of Stewart Neb., Albert Armstrong of Basett Neb., Mis. (?) A. Wooley of Springfield Oregon. The deceased had nine children, (?) grand children, 30 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Armstrong lived a devout Christian live. She was converted in young womanhood and united with the Baptist Church. She never failed to love and trust her redeemer.

Her husband died in 1908. [Death cert. says 13-June-1904] For the past eleven years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs E. J. Foote of Raymond. Mrs Armstrong will be greatly missed by her circle of friends and acquaintances. A faithful wife and mother, a true friend and good neighbor, she filled her mission in the world and hath gone to her eternal reward. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."

Brief funeral services were held at the house Thursday 1:30 P.M. conducted by Rev. H. C. Kishpaugh oft he M. E. church. Further funeral services will be held Friday at Sleepy Eye where internment will be made.

The News extends condolences to the bereaved families.

Notes on Wallace William Armstrong and Julia Elizabeth Lobdell Armstrong:

William Edward Chute lists his birthdate as October 27, 1844; other sources give his birthdate as 1843. He identified himself as "William Wallace" on the 1890 census.

The story behind the divorce and remarriage of Wallace and Julia was explained by descendant Nan Curtis in 2001: "Julia E. Lobdell-Armstrong fell in love with a traveling salesman, Kenneth L. McClellan. Sometime between 1884, and 1885, she took the youngest three daughters, Lillie Mae Armstrong/b. 1878, Iva Maude Armstrong/b. 1881, and Celia Gertrude Armstrong, b. 1883, and left Wallace W. Armstrong, and the older four children, Minnie Armstrong, b. 1872, Edward D. Armstrong, b. 1883, Arthur F. Armstrong/b. 1885, and Erbin Armstrong/b. 1877 with him in MN. Julia travelled with Kenneth L. McClellan to Zillah, Yakima Co., WA. She divorced Wallace, and married Kenneth Mc Clellan in 1889. They had a daughter Kate Helen McClellan, b 1890 in MN. Julia E. Mc Clellan is buried beside Kenneth L. Mc Clellan in Zillah, Yakima, WA. Her daughter Lillie Mae Armstrong, is buried beside her second husband Frank Jackson Smith, in the same cemetery, in Zillah, Yakima, WA." Source: Nan Curtis, Bishop, California, Jan 2001.

Notes on Binea Chute and Louisa (Louise) Jane Foster Chute:

"Born at Bear River, June 23, 1801; married by Rev. William Elder, Louis[a] Jane Foster, Nov. 12, 1829, and lived more than fifty years on his father's old farm, half a mile from Bear River bridge. He was as generous hearted and hospitable a man as any of the name in Nova Scotia; his house was always open for travelers, especially the Christian pilgrims. In 1882 he sold the old farm, that had been the home of his father and mother, to James Manning, son of Robert Rice, and joined his sons in Ontario, locating at Ridgetown, Kent Co., where he died Nov. 12, 1887."
