Notes on Jennie Nangle: "I met Great-Aunt Jennie in the mid-1940's when I was 5 or 6 yrs. old. She was very sweet, and wrote letters to me, as I learned to print & write, and she sent candy & gifts every Christmas. I think she died around 1950 or so. I'll never forget her. She was at her late mother's house in Needham, MA. Her mother's name was Jessie May BISHOP, of Halifax, NS. She married William T. Nangle. After he died, she married John HARRIS.
I guess we are some sort of in-laws. I just can't quite believe this!! I never met any of Jennie's children. My grandparents died many years before I was born. As to my being so "young", my father was 52 when I was born!!! (His 2nd marriage.)"

There is an 1861 Census record showing a "Nehemiah Chute", aged 20, living with Thomas Chute and Sarah Kean Chute. The year of birth would suggest their boarder was this Nehemiah Chute, but it is still unconfirmed.

I am sending you an old telephone book and have marked the counties where there are Chutes. I don't know anything about any of them, but thought you might be interested in writing some of them. We are very interested in what you are doing, and only wish we could help more. We saw the old book you referred to thirty years ago but are unable to locate it now.
Sincerely,"Mrs. Sam Chute of Kingston will be celebrating her 96th birthday on November 23rd. This grand old lady of Kingston was born in Waterville in 1872. She is residing with her son-in-law, John Stevens of Kingston.
Mrs. Chute has spent a long and active life. To this day she has never taken pills of any kind. Today, she spends most of her time in bed, but her hands are always busy with her knitting. During her long life she has produced mountains of handicraft. At the age of eighty, she spend one thousand hours on a tapestry which is a piece of art and could only be produced by one of tremendous skill and dexterity.
Her late husband was known as Nova Scotia's Apple King. The Chutes had a large farm in South Berwick which was operated by Silas Chute and later by his son Sam. Silas had built a small commercial empire on this farm, producing boxes for shipping fruit, grinding grain and bonemeal and extracting apple cider with a giant hand press. Sam Chute developed the farm into one of the largest fruit farms in the country. He was growing an estimated six acres of blackberries, twelve acres of raspberries, as much as forty acres of strawberries abnd the same acreage for potatoes. In his orchard he grew pears, plums and of course his famous apples. The Chutes had one daughter Lucy who passed away last year.
One sister of Mrs. Chutes is still living. She is Mrs. Wilbert Oxley of Calgary, Alberta and one brother Ernest Margeson of Berwick."
