Discussion

Savina Ott has resisted efforts to find her prior to her marriage to John Eck. Savina Ott must have been born about 1725, based on the birth of her first child. This also makes it likely she was in America and married by 1746. Her father would then have to be born no later than 1705. Hans Michael Ott could be the right age but all of his children seem to have been born considerably later. Johan Nicholas Ott would be too young. The normal German naming pattern would indicate her father was Theodorus. However, if her first son was named after her father, then Conrad. A Conrad Ott arrived in Philadelphia on the Francis and Elizabeth 21 Sep 1742, accompanied by Adam Ott (Odt) Junior and Senior, Johannes Ott, Johannes Pedter Odt, and Johan Henrich Odt. [A group Peter, Michael, Henry, John, Jacob, and Benjamin (without a Conrad) are listed in the 1778 tax list for Bedminster, Bucks Co., PA, but these almost certainly the children of Michael Hans Ott.] Also, there is a Conrad Ott listed in the Philiadelphia census in 1742, along with an Adam Ott, Adam Ott Sr., Johann Peter Ott, and Johannes Ott [same group as on the ship]. It appears that the same individuals all also served in the Revolution. In 1740, Henry Ott and Casper Ott were naturalized in Bucks Co. In 1775, there were Bucks Co. wills for Henry Ott, Jacob Ott, and Michael Ott.

There were a large number of Otts in Bedminster, Bucks Co., PA, which is about 10 miles from Upper Salford, where John Eck lived. Also, there were a couple of Yost entries in the 1778 tax list, Yost being the maiden name of John Eck's third wife. According to the 11 Aug 1757 The Pennsylvania Gazette on August 4, 1757, about 186 Acres, on which there is a grist mill, standing on Durham Creek, about one mile from Durham Iron works [near Tinicum], in Bucks County, late the Property of Henry Ott, seized and will be sold.
