Obituary provided by Prugh Funeral Service, Burlington, Iowa: "Roy Jefferson Tweedell, 91, of Burlington, died at 1 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2003, at his home. Born November 23, 1911, at Pea Ridge in Skyler County, Illinois, (rural Rushville, Illinois), he was the son of John T. and Daisy Thoroman (Thurman)Tweedell. On May 31, 1947, he married Esther L. Smith in Nauvoo, Illinois. She died June 9, 1971. Mr. Tweedell was president and business agent for the Teamsters Union for 29 years. He retired in 1957 due to a heart condition. After retirement, he engaged in commercial fishing on the Mississippi River. He built a home in Missouri following his retirement. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Moose Club and Eagles Lodge. He was a 58 year member of Malta Masonic Lodge #318 in Burlington and a 50 year-life member of International Association of Elk #106 in Keokuk. Survivors include several nieces, nephews, many cousins and special friend, Cheryl Burr of Burlington. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., and the family receiving friends until 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Tweedell will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Milo Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in St. Paul Cemetery in Kahoka. A memorial has been established for First United Church of Christ."

Obituary from The Hawkeye (Burlington, Iowa), 12 nov 1989: "Vesta M. Skalnik, 86, 2140 South 13th Street, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday November 11, 1989, in Burlington at the home of her sister. Born October 8, 1903, in Illinois, she was the daughter of John T. and Daisy Edna Thurman Tweedell. She married Joseph A. "Bud" Skalnik March 28, 1939, in Denver, Colorado. He died June 9, 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and King's Daughters Golden Rule Circle No. 1. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs, Alma House and Mrs. Dorothy Wachutka, both of Burlington; three brothers, John Tweedell, Roy Tweedell, and Lyle Tweedell, all of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Prugh's. The service for Mrs. Skalnik will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel with the Reverend Glenn R. Parrott officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Grace Methodist Church."
