It is not known to which of the Tilley families she belonged. While there is no mention of Tilley among the early settlers of Agawam, there were several families of the name near Agawam, all of whom were men of influence in the communities in which they lived, and prominent in the affairs of the colony. (Some researchers have claimed Elizabeth's lineage back to Howland and Tilley of the Mayflower, but there is no proof of same).

The records relating to Esther Tillier are very explicit, she is described as "noble". That could only mean she belongs to the von Tillier family of Bern. However, we are so far at a loss to identify her father or to understand how she became the wife of Claude Sordet.
