Who are the ancestral Tripods? The earliest record so far is a Pierre Tripod at St. Livres, in 1439. In 1568, documents of Claude Mayor, notary, also mention Nicolas Tripod, notary, heirs of Pierre Tripod, and Louis Tripod uncle of Bernard and Louis Tripod, brothers, who own land near Bière. It is likely that Bernard and Louis are sons of the late Pierre. François Tripod has land next to Jean Huguet at that time, and may be another brother.
By 1612, documents of Pierre Barillet, notary, show Magdelaine Tripod and her husband Louis Prouz, and Abraham and Claudine Tripod, owners of land at St. Livres next to Claude Huguet and Jean Grivel. Registers at St. Livres show (1617) that Magdelaine Tripod wife of Louis Prou was the sister of Claudine Tripod. By 1622, Claudine had married Jean Guignot and baptized son Abraham, witnessed by Abraham Tripod. The next year, Abraham Tripod appears with his wife Marie de la Vy. (There are no marriage records for this period, just baptisms.)
A document of André Morsier, notary at Rolle, involves settlement on 09 apr 1599 of a dispute over the estate of the late Bartholomé Tripod bourgeois of Aubonne, evidently the notary mentioned in other records. His son Egrège Gabriel Tripod notary and bourgeois of Aubonne was sued by Gabriel Sylvestre minister at Bursins on behalf of his children Samuel and Jeanne Sylvestre as heirs of his late wife Pernette Tripod, sister of Gabriel Tripod and daughter of the late Bartholomé Tripod. Another document of the same notary dated 11 nov 1595 concerns Jaques son of the late Bartholomé Tripod.
Among the priests of Aubonne who accepted the Edict of Reformation in 1537, we find a Claude Tripod and a Nicolas Robert.
Witnesses were Rose, daughter of Bernard Tripod, and her husband Claude Floret. So far, we have no evidence that there were more than one Gabriel Tripod at St. Livres at this time. Is this the same Claudine who appears with husband Jean Guignot and son Abraham in 1622? So far, we see no reason to doubt this. If this is true, then several other siblings can be added here.

As the church records of Aubonne and several neighboring parishes do not begin until about 1629, we have no record of the marriage of Pierre Valier and Françoise Tripod, and thus no indication of her parentage. No marriage contract was located among the surviving notarial records of the district of Aubonne, but perhaps something will be found in the records of Morges.
[8703] Birthdate estimated based on date of birth of the last child in 1654.
[8704] She appears as the widow of the late Pierre Valier at a baptism at Burtigny 13 aug 1671 (Valier genealogy, Olivier Dessemontet, 1970).

Witnessed a document recorded by Urbain Campod, notary at Lavigny, dated 24 apr 1575, by which time we assume he had reached the age of majority, 25. In the surviving records of the same notary, we also find isolated mentions about the same time of Pierre Tripod of St. Livres, Louis Tripod of Lavigny, and Eg. Nicolas Tripod near Yens. Pierre Tripod in this register is also apparently noted as Curial d'Aubonne in 1571.

Identified as a brother of Gabriel in a document of Claude Mayor, notary, dated 29 apr 1595. Is this the same Pierre Trippod curial d'Aubonne who acted as a notary in 1571 (mentioned in register of Urbain Campod, notary in the area of Lavigny, 1573)? Or was the curial from the previous generation, perhaps a brother of Bartholomé Tripod.
A citation in a genealogy of the Grivel family by Olivier Dessemontet (ACV, dated 18 oct 1970) bears on this question. In the terrier ACV FH 27, fol. 175, there is a "reconnaissance" dated 12 may 1579, by Eg. Jean Grivel, acting on behalf of Jean and Jaques son of the late Eg. Pierre Tripod, and as guardian of Pierre, son of the late Eg. Gabriel Tripod, who was brother of the late Eg. Pierre Tripod. This is helpful, as far as it goes. Further research in the terriers of Aubonne should be productive.

A document of 02 jan 1593, Jean Barral, notary, identifies Rose Tripod as the sister of Eg. Gabriel Tripod, and the widow of the late François Conod, apothecary and bourgeois of Morges. Is this the same Rose Tripod daughter of the late Bernard Tripod who appeared at a baptism at St. Livres in 1599? If so, why is she not identified in that record as the sister of Gabriel? That Rose was wife of Claude Floret, but we have found no record of that marriage.

1865 census notes she bore 8 children, only 6 accounted for. If the James McDougall in the 1840 census of Argyle, p. 18, is this couple, one of the missing children was a daughter born between Phebe and Nancy.
