In spite of family information that she died in Adams Co., OH in 1850, we find Clarinda Smith age 52 living alone near other families from Adams Co., OH in the 1860 census, McLean Co., IL, p. 473 (this is Pleasant Hill division of Lexington Tp., P.O. Selma). Possibly the same woman is in Edgar Co. (p. 63) in 1870, living with the Francis M. Cummins household (she is age 62 there, name spelled Clorinda).
It would be very helpful to locate an obituary for her, in case her relatives might have used the occasion to mention anything about the origins of the family.

Daniel married Jane Harrison of Linville Creek and became a prominent citizen of his county.
One of the justices for Augusta Co; was Capt. under Gen. Lewis in the battle of Point Pleasant; member of the Courtmartial for West Augusta district from the beginning of the French wars until Oct. 1777. Sept. 1781 he was commissioned in the Revolutionary army, as Deputy Purveyor, Southern Dept. As presiding Justice of Rockingham Co., he signed court records for the last time and left immediately for Yorktown to join his four sons (John, Daniel, Joseph & Robert) who were in the Revolutionary army.
He died in 1781; will proved 26 Nov. 1781. His wife, Jane (Harrison) Smith, qualified as executrix. Probably buried in the old Dayton graveyard near Smithsland. His widow died 1796. Twelve children.

Sources differ as to the birthdate of Elizabeth. The Foote Family Assn. internet site shows a birthdate of 1620. This is probably incorrect. More likely her birth occurred between 1625-1627. She was supposedly aged 7 when the family arrived in 1634, placing her birth at 1627.
