Surname may be Reynold, but as Regnauld, it is certain that Denise's father Guillaume acquired seigneury of Donneloye in 1527 from the Duke of Savoye and later qualified as donzel at Romont (1545). One account puts her death at about 1579. Her sole (residual?) heir, according to a document recorded by Jean Ballif, notary of Combremont-le-Grand (ACV DP 3/1 fol. 62, 30 aug 1583), was her son Josu Gachet. That may mean only he was the only son, and that the daughters by her second marriage, if any survived to that date, had already settled their claims against the estate.
A better list of her heirs is given in the "infodation" of the fief of Bellevaux 28 jan 1595 after these heirs sold their interest to Simon Balanche. The document, under the signature of Nicolas Brlart at Neuchatel, acting for the duchesse of Longueville, relates that the fief was bequeathed by Marguerite de Bellevaux to her nephew Guillaume Regnauld, and passed then to Guillaume's daughter Denise Regnauld, whose children and grandchildren, the latest holders of the fief, were: Josu Gachet; the heirs of the late Claude Gachet; Jean Muriset son of the late George Muriset; and Marguerite Muriset, daughter of the said late George Muriset and of the said Denise Regnauld. The text of this document is given in Jonas Boyve's Annales historiques du Comt de Neuchtel et de Valangin, tome 3, edition of 1854-1855 , pp. 330-332 (see also pp. 323-324).

Charles duke of Savoy granted Guillaume Regnauld title to various estates including Chanaz and Donneloye 24 sep 1527 for 400 florins. In 1545, he was recognized as Donzel of Romont, Sr. de Romont, and Coseigneur de Donneloye. It is tempting to think that the Reynold family of Romont is connected, though we have seen no proof. Guillaume is called bourgeois de Romont in at least one document. He may be affiliated with the Regnauld/Renauld family of Avenches, where we find in 1569 Jacques Reznaut, banderet, among many others not yet sorted out.
Guillaume Regnauld inherited the fief of Bellevaux (now in the city of Neuchtel) from his aunt Marguerite de Bellevaux. His title of Sr. de Bellevaux was confirmed by George de Rive in 1537. Jean Gachet (not Jean Amey, his elder brother) inherited Bellevaux through his wife, Denise Regnauld, daughter of Guillaume, after the death of Guillaume's only (legitimate) son Jacob. Information forwarded by Nicolas Junod from Petitpierre's Patrie Neuchteloise (1935) gives a different account of the Gachet family, seemingly in error: in this version, Denise Regnauld married Jean Gachet, whose 3 children are identified as Jean Amey, Josu, and Denise (who married a Muriset). This interpretation is contradicted by several documents 1556-1557 recorded by Benoit Nible, notary at Payerne, which indicate Jean Amey Gachet was the eldest brother of Franois Gachet and Catherine Gachet, both identified as children of the late Pierre Gachet, secrtaire de la ville de Payerne. (Petitpierre's account also identifies Regnauld as belonging with the Reynold family of Fribourg, without further comment. This may be only a very plausible speculation.) Even more references assume that Denise Regnauld married Jean Amey Gachet, and that he was the father of Josu. An earlier account of this family by Jonas Boyve and Golzalve Petitpierre (Annales historiques du comt de Neuchtel et Valangin, 2:260, 1855) says that the Guillaume Regnauld whose daughter was Denise was the son of the Guillaume Regnauld who married Jeanne de Bellevaux (see also p. 375, loc. cit.). The history of the holders of the fief of Bellevaux is continued by Boyve and Petitpierre in volume 3 of the Annales historiques, revealing additional details that have yet to be reconciled with the later scholarship of Olivier Clottu on this fief (see below). However, it is also clear that Boyve and Petitpierre missed the first marriage of Denise Regnauld, and thus reached incorrect conclusions about the relationship of the Muriset heirs to the Gachet family.
The partage among the sons of Pierre Gachet and Jaquaz du Truict, dated 28 may 1563 (Abraham Chuard, notary at Payerne, ACV DP 14/1), tells us that Jean Amey had a brother Jean, then still living. All of the documents mentioning Denise Regnauld call her husband Jean, rather than Jean Amey. This was, obviously, an important distinction, because both men were members of the town council. Even better, a document recorded by Pierre Jan, notary at Payerne, calls him Jean Gachet Sr. de Bellevaux and current Banderet of Payerne on 09 feb 1588, long after the death of Jean Amey Gachet in 1573 (attested by the "Hussbchli" of his brother Niklaus Gatschet at Bern, and by many other records). Title for the fief of Bellevaux passed from Guillaume Regnauld to his daughter Denise, and then to her husband Jean Gachet, then to his eldest son Josu Gachet, who seems to have disposed of the property. (History of Bellevaux: Olivier Clottu, 1960, "Le fief de Bellevaux Neuchtel," Arch. hr. suisses 74:20-27.)
Guillaume had an illegitimate son Pierre who died about 1582, according to a document recorded by Hans Jacob Carrard, notary at Payerne, dated 17 nov 1584.
Guillaume could be the son or nephew of a Jean Regnauld of Romont who figures in records of the notary Benoit Nible of Payerne. This Jean Regnauld had married Catherine de Buloz and had died, leaving three daughters as of about 1558: Bernardine, who married Nicod de Trey (according to one source, his son Franois married a Magdelaine Gachet whose identity has not been determined); Antheine, who married Jean de Trey, son of Oddet; and Guilliana, who married Franois "Schaeffley".

Marriage to Benoite du Moullin according to Petitpierre, Patrie Neuchteloise (1935), which, however, has been shown to contain some important errors. This account says they had no children, and that the widow next married Benoit Nible. The earlier account of Jonas Boyve (Annales historiques du comt de Neuchtel et Valangin, edited 1854-1855 by J.-F. Boyve, nephew of Jonas, and Golzalve Petitpierre, vol. 3, p.103) shows that Jacob Regnauld had died by 1561, leaving no children. His seat at the Audiences Gnrales at Neuchtel was taken in that year by Jean Gachet, in the name of his wife and of his sister-in-law, presumably meaning Miche Regnauld. The chronology is not very clear however, since Jean Gachet had also taken that seat in 1559 as son-in-law of Guillaume Regnauld, but Boyve's account does not give any hint that Guillaume had died by this date. Guillaume was certainly alive to take his position at the Audiences Gnrales in 1553, and if Jacob had ever held title to half of the fief of Bellevaux by virtue of succession, as seems to be implied in Boyve's account, it follows that Jacob must have died after his father.
Part of the difficulty with the dates of Jacob Regnauld is that his widow next married Benoit Nible, and one of Benoit Nible's daughters married in 1567. If Jacob Regnauld's widow was the first wife of Benoit Nible, we would have to place Jacob's death before 1550 in order for Nible to have a daughter of marriageable age in 1567. However, another possibility now seems more likely: Perhaps Jacob's widow was the second wife of Nible. This possibility leads of course, to the speculation that we will eventually discover yet another set of relationships among the notable families of the region, for no one arranged marriages so adroitly as Benoit Nible, whether for himself or for his circle of relatives and friends.

A "reconnaissance" dated 12 aug 1591 by Egrge Jaques Nicaty for property at Moudon (ACV Fn 343 fol. From this odd wording, we surmise that Jean Regnauld married first Catherine du Bulloz, and then her sister Marie. Marie is thus likely the mother of Guilliaulmaz, widow of Jost Schaeffly.
She inherited the part of Donneloye belonging to her father, after which it passed to the Roguinet family of Fribourg.
