Apparently appeared as an adult for a transaction involving real estate in 1499, so presumably he had reached the age of 25 by that date. Other transactions are cited in later documents of Benoit Nible, notary at Payerne, Registre 2, p. 140, 28 nov 1562, where the original notary is given as Pierre Chuard. Girard seems alive in 1553, when he appears in an IOU recorded by Benoit Nible, notary, but that reference must refer to another person, as he is clearly deceased in various documents at least as early as 1537. Another such reference is ACV C XX 309 / 89, dated 30 jul 1540, a sale of property by ? Anthonye Rey for his wife Henriette fille de feu Pierre Marmyer de Chesard, to ? Girard Pigniollet de Chesard. There are also mentions of a much earlier Girardus dit Pignyolet of Chesard (01 nov 1410, ACV C XX 309 / 125); this Girardus had a brother Perrodus Pignyolet, of Grandcour (C XX 309 / 130, testament of Perrodus dated 24 mar 1416 Style of the Annunciation). A daughter of one or another of the two Girardus, Agnes, married Jaquetus son of Humbertus Moret of Rueyres (C XX 309 / 156, dated in 1438 and 1440), and Agnes also had a brother Uldriodus, son of this Girardus. Meanwhile, Perrodus himself left, besides the younger Girardus, two more sons, Jaquetus and Henricus.
The marriage contract of 1537, Clauda Pignollet to Pierre son of Jean Coccet, notes additional parties:
Jean Pignollet, "nurry de feuz Girard Pignollet" (Jean is thus a ward or adopted—and presumably illegitimate—son of Girard), Nycod Vuillomet, Hanschemand Chastillion, Guillaume Valacey, "prochains parantz" (next of kin) "et affins" (relatives) of Clauda. The reference to Hanschemand (Hanseman) Chastillion is "explained" by a document in the second register of Pierre Chuard, notary at Payerne (ACV DP 16/2, dated 11 sep 1525), in which George Trevaul alias Torchit sells property to Henchement Pignollet alias Chastillion surtoriius of Payerne (see below, regarding the testament of Girard Pignollet).
There is also a blank space where the name of Girard's wife should have been inserted!
Records of Nicod Mehan (volume containing records of debts to him, possibly in his office as clerk of Payerne, signed by a variety of notaries, 1496-1521) show Girardus Pignyollet as an adult in 1499. Two other records from 1502 and 1507 show that Girard is the son of the late Johannes Pigniollet and his widow Ancellina or Ancillesca. The inventory of the communal archives of Payerne notes two documents involving sales by Girard Pignollet, 1498 and 1514.
The Pignollet marriages and baptisms found at Payerne 1581-1644, involving descendants of Adam Pignollet and his wife Barbille, are probably related to Jean Pignollet, ward of Girard. The line disappears from Payerne, and the name does not show up in the Livre d'Or or any of the other compendia of Swiss surnames, so it is probably extinct. (There are also mentions in early records around Lutry of what may be the same surname, Pigniollet.) We are indebted to Edmond Ischi, historian of Payerne, for the following extract from the Manual de Conseil, 01 apr 1735: "Adam Pignolet, fils lgitime de Jean Pignolet qui tait fils donn de Girard Pignolet, requrant la bourgeoisie est conduit par ce que son pre tait btard et non Bourgeois." (However, this opinion, from 1735, is contradicted in several transactions recorded by the notary Aym Chuard, ACV Dp 15, in which the same Jean Pigniolet is clearly identified as "bourgeois de Payerne", as are various others born outside of marriage, notably Noble Claude Mestral, illegitimate son of Girard Mestral, advoyer de Payerne. Adam Pignolet was cheated.)
There are many mentions of Girard in the records of Pierre Chuard, notary at Payerne (ACV DP 16/1). The earliest we have identified so far is a sale of property at Payerne, "en la Pierraz," by Anthoine Cuassot of Cugy, to Girard Pigniollet, bourgeois de Payerne.
The testament of Girard Pignolet (or an abbreviated abstract of it) has survived, dated 15 feb 1525. It is inserted in a volume of records of the notary Pierre Chuard, but was not actually recorded in the register where it now appears (not mentioned in index at front of volume). The testament is accompanied by a copy of a "reconnaissance" relating to one of the bequests, dated 1514, by a further apparent codicil or acknowledgement relating to bequests to the church, an acknowledgement of bequests to his wife Jeannetta and his sister Alix Laurent (evidently her married name), and, most significantly, by an acknowledgement of Guille. Vialis, procurator for the venerable clergy of Payerne, for receipt of a sum for the celebration of the anniversary of Girard's decease each 16 February. The sum for this purpose mentioned in the testament covers a donation for prayers and the cost of candles.
From the testament, we learn that Girard had sisters Alix Laurent (with son Henri) of Payerne (living on land rented to them by Girard) and Guillauma of Fribourg. There is also a Henchemand Pignolet, possibly a brother, but relationship not stated. His wife Jeannetta may be the daughter of Laurent Bien, but this less directly than we would wish ("Item, dat Johannete filie Laurentii bien unam saccam frumenti..." — and it may be that this Johanneta is another of his sisters, and distinct from his wife Johanneta). His four daughters are named, to share the bulk of the estate in equal portions. The copy of the testament does not indicate how the original was recorded, whether by a notary or in Girard's own hand (not likely as he died the next day), nor the names of the witnesses. Without more information, there is no way to evaluate the accuracy of this abstract. A possible alternative would be that by "sister", Girardus actually was referring to sisters of his wife (thus sisters-in-law). Or, they might be half-sisters, daughters of the same mother, but of different fathers. So far, no other clear references have been found to any of them.
Henchemand appears in a number of documents of Pierre Chuard, including one dated 01 sep 1527 that names Marguerite du Bugnyon, sister of Yaulx du Bugnyon, as his wife. The notary Nicod Proux recorded a document dated 04 apr 1528 that makes Marguerite the daughter of Vuillermin de Burguyn, with sister Ysabella and brother "Heos" or similar.
In early records of the notaries of Payerne, there are various references including a Pierre Pignollet around 1510 "rector et gubernatorum animarum purgatorum" of Payerne. There is another mention of a Petrus Pignollet 13 dec 1467 (communal archives). However, there is nothing to connect these mentions directly to Girard.

Apparently an illegitimate son of Girard Pignollet. His given name is rendered in many ways, including Henchemand, Hencheman, Encheman, Hansman, etc. His alternative surname, Chasteillon or Chtillon, has not been explained—is it perhaps the family name of his unknown mother? He is mentioned in his presumed father's testament of 1525, and elsewhere as Girard's "nutritus", a word that usually means an illegitimate son).
Henchemand appears in a number of documents of Pierre Chuard, including one dated 01 sep 1527 that names Marguerite du Bugnyon, sister of Yaulx du Bugnyon, as his wife. The notary Nicod Proux recorded a document dated 04 apr 1528 that makes Marguerite the daughter of Vuillermus du Burguyn, with sister Ysabella and brother "Heos".
This is apparently the same Hannssman Chastillion whose children Louise, Jean, and Daniel are mentioned in the records of Benoit de Miville, notary of Payerne (ACV Dp 66, especially fol. 183, where we learn that Louise was "deflowered" by Noble Franois de Pr, from whom she was awarded monetary damages).

In a later generation, the city council of Payerne was asked to declare that his descendants were entitled to citizenship at Payerne. However, the council noted that he was an illigitimate son of Girard, and therefore, Girard's citizenship did not extend to Jean and his descendants. ( We are indebted to Edmond Ischi, historian of Payerne, for the following extract from the Manual de Conseil, 01 apr 1735: "Adam Pignolet, fils lgitime de Jean Pignolet qui tait fils donn de Girard Pignolet, requrant la bourgeoisie, est conduit par ce que son pre tait btard et non Bourgeois.")
His marriage to Loysaz, daughter of the late Aymoz Maynyin (clearly written, with a dot over the i) and step-daughter (fillietraz) of Franoys Sissiez of Payerne, was recorded 23 sep 1538 by Jean Savary, notary at Payerne (ACV Dp 94, fol. 42v). The marriage contract makes no mention of his illegitimate status: Jehan filz de jadix Girard Pigniollet bourgeois de Payerne.

Mentioned in connection with the Margueron family as early as 1674 and as late as 1700. He was so closely associated, in fact, that we thought he had married Esther Dutoit after the death of her second husband. But it is now clear that he simply stepped forward to help her navigate through the inevitable legalities after the death of Isaac Margueron. His testament was recorded 08 jul 1702 by Vincent Briod, naming 5 sons and 3 daughters, and his wife Ursule Amiet, cited as early as 1678.
