Pierre is probably the son or grandson of eithe Benoit or Humbert Nicati, brothers and notaries of Moudon at the middle of the 16th Century. Benoit was record of the hospital of Moudon, while Humbert was rector of the chapel of St. George in the old church of Notre Dame. Modern descendants of this old family have divided, apparently, into two branches, one using the spelling Nicaty, the other Nicati. In the old records, however, the spellings are interchangeable.
