Appears in French records in Geneva as Jean Anthoine Moussin. The marriage record at the Italian Protestant church in Geneva, 08 dec 1588, reads "si sposo Gio. Antonio Mossino di Sondrio con Claudia figliuola del quondam Ms. Mauricio Ferrari Milanese." (Sondrio is in the part of Italy that was occupied by Grisons at that time, a region later known as the Valeline. The Italian church calls this family Ferrari, even though the notaries more often use the form "de Ferrariis".) There are several indications that connect Mossino with Octavia de Ferrariis. First, he is listed as her brother-in-law (beaufr�re) at the time of her second marriage. Beyond this direct statement, we also find Mossino pledging a large sum (4550 florins), apparently through mortaging a house at St. L�ger, for the dowry of Octavia at that time (Olivier Dagonneau, notary, vol. 8 p. 252 and vol. 11 p. 89). A few years later, Bernard G�lieu appears in Geneva for the baptism of Mossino's daughter Juditha (he is called "Bernardo Gellio", 23 mar 1598).
The other baptism of one of Mossino's children at the Italian Church is also interesting. The child was Stefano (01 aug 1596), and the "compare" was the ubiquitous Stefano Rocca, already known to be the" uncle" of Octavia de Ferrariis, or of her first husband Ambrosio Bonino. Does the presence of Rocca at the baptism of the child of Mossino and Claudia de Ferrariis make it more likely that the de Ferrariis family (rather than the Bonino family) was related to Stefano in some way?
Mossino's death occurred before 1628, the latest date in the 4th volume of records of Pierre Gautier, notary, where on p. 83 is found a Procure from Melchior Pinaut, tuteur of Cesar and Paul Mussin, children of the late Jean Anthoine Mussin, to Pierre Benedetto of Lyon, regarding property or funds of the estate in Lyon, France. (These would have been the surviving minor children of Mossino.) The exact date is from the indexes to the death registers of Geneva. The entry in the death register says "Jean Anthoine Moursin alias Moussin, moulinier de soye, aag� d'environ cinquante ans", from which we derive his estimated date of birth. The alternative spelling, Moursin, suggests additional research in the indexes of the records of the notaries.
On occasion, the name is given in Italian as Mossini, and variously in French as Mossin, Mussin, Moussin, etc.
The repertoire of deaths for Geneva indicates a daughter of Jean Anthoine Moussin died during the 1590's (vol. 22, p.23).
