A family tree on MyHeritage.com for a Henry "MacDougal" gives him a death date of 26 aug 1935 in Lewis Township, Essex Co., NY, and apparently a additional wife, Katherine McCormick 1860-1898, by whom a daughter Bessie, b. 1892, d. June, 1962 (buried at Deer Head Cemetery, Lewis, New York), who married Archie Rumney. Since the descendant, who would be Dad's fourth cousin, shows a match of 40.3 cM on two chromosomes (20.2 cM on chromosome 2, 174.5-202.5M, and 20.1 cM on chromosome 12, 116.3-128.0), and since the pedigree is essentially complete, we accept this account. The trees on Ancestry etc. seem to have accepted the birth date of 25 dec 1844, but we do not know on what authority. Henry obtained a pension for his Civil War service as a Private in Co. F, 118th New York Volunteer Infantry, certificate number 829550, but as he died after 1930, his pension file is still apparently in the custody of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and will require of Freedom of Information request for access, which seems not to have been done by any genealogist.

The second wife was Katherine ("Kate") McCormick, but the date of marriage has not been located. Katherine was born in 1860 and died 29 dec 1898. The first known child, Mary L., has an obituary (16 nov 1970, died the preceding Saturday evening) that places her birth date on 04 apr 1884 (daughter of Henry MacDougal and Catherine McCormack) , and the 1900 census says April 1884. The next known child was Leona, born in October, 1889 and died 26 apr 1911. It is entirely possible that there were one or two more children between Mary and Leona who died in infancy, but if so, their graves have not been identified and there do not seem to be any death records for the period. (One tree includes a daughter Belle, ?? jun 1886 - 30 apr 1889, thus filling in the gap.) In spite of the obituary, some of the family trees on Ancestry make Mary the daughter of another, unknown wife of Henry.
Henry is found on the 1900 and 1905 censuses without a wife. In the 1910 census, Henry "McDougle" has a wife Ellen, age 62. The census indicates this was Henry's third marriage and Ellen's second, and that they had been married for two years, thus placing the marriage date about 1908. There is indeed an entry in the New York state marriage index for a Henry McDougall in Lewis, [Essex Co.], date apparently 10 jun (but indexed by Ancestry as 10 aug) 1908, spouse codes DANI, certificate number 15599. In the index of brides, the corresponding entry (the bride's name) is Ellen Daniels, and the date is most likely 10 jun but possibly 10 may 1908, same certificate number. One tree on Ancestry shows Ellen's first husband as William A. Daniels, and their marriage in 1874. Her gravestone in the Lewis Cemetery is with her first husband: William A. Daniels 1848-1907, his wife Ellen Slaughter 1848-1928.
The last surviving child of Henry McDougall was Mary, who died in 1970.
It seems unlikely that she was actually born in New York City, but that assertion cannot be ruled out entirely. It seems more likely that she was born in Lisbon, New York, but no documentary evidence naming her birthplace has been located, except for the record of her marriage to William Neville. Her tombstone calls her Hester Anna.

Name is listed as Israel Chafter McDougall in pension papers of his father, but Isreal S. McDougall in all available census records. Family record has middle name as Shaftey, evidently after his grandmother's second husband. He may have been the "Ireal" McDougall with wife Fern who appear along with Samuel McDougall and his wife Nellie in the school censuses of Frontier Co., NE 1912-1925. He and Fern are not in school census of 1926. However, he would be very young to be already married in 1912!
