Paper maker in Eynsford, Kent, England. Information partly from IGI, where various spellings, and from citations from various histories of papermaking gathered by Jean Stirk. Death record at Eynesford indicates Andrew Johannot Senior. The otherwise unexplained death 08 apr 1721 of an Andrew Johannot at Eynesford is here taken to be the death of Andrew, son of Pierre Johannot. Noted at Eynsford Paper Mill in 1690's as master papermaker, associated with Samuel Galliott, according to Alfred Shorter (Studies, 1993).
The will of Andrew Johannot is recorded in the Peculiar Deanery of Shoreham (register vol. 6, p. 597, also act book J p. 25). The date 22 oct 1737 appears in the probate index, along with an entry for the death of the widow Margaret Johannot, "widow dying 29 mar 1739". In addition to the probate documents, the Lambeth Palace Library has a document dating from 1731, Archbishop of Canterbury, Vicar General, Peculiar Jurisdiction, Court Records, Cause Papers — Defamation, the case of Anne Vicat wive of Peter Vicat of Sutton v. Andrew Johannot of Eynsford, Kent (AA/V/H/78/122), not yet examined. This probably pertains to Andrew's business dealings, but might be worth investigating.
The conclusion seems almost inescapable that Andr� must have been a grandson of the Pierre Johannot who married Sibille Fleureton. By 1640, Pierre was apparently residing in St. Didier-en-Velay (or perhaps St. Didier-de-Crussol) and baptised his second child at Annonay. That Pierre is the only one of the papermakers of Annonay whose posterity is not documented. One other citation places a Pierre Johannot at Rives, Is�re, in 1661, renting the paper mill there for the term of four years. Now, this is in the same general area where there are also later references to papermakers of the Fleureton family, and we take this to be a reference to the same Pierre, who would have been in his 50's at that time. The web site of Jean-Paul-Blettery (http://www.bletteryjp.fr/papetiers/papeteries/Grenoble/Rives.html) gives further citations about the Pierre Johannot who worked at Rives: "Pierre Johannot avait lou� le moulin � papier de Rives en 1656 au propri�taire des lieux, Jean-Baptiste de Chabon, 'seigneur de Rives conseiller du Roy en son conseil priv� et d'estat' (contrats �tablis par Me Berger et Me Guelin). Ce bail fut renouvel� et un acte fut r�dig� par M� Guelin en d�cembre 1661 pour une dur�e de quatre ans. Le prix de cet arrentement fut fix� � 350 livres payables tous les ans et livraison de quatre rames de papier et deux pistoles d'etrenne � payer en une seule fois. L'acte, �tabli au ch�teau de Rives,� fut sign� par le seigneur de Chabon et par Pierre Johannot." Evidently, it is the act of 1661 that has survived. There does not seem to be any further information, and, as M. Blettery notes, the name Johannot does not figure in the surviving (Catholic) church records of Rives.
This Pierre would have been born around 1600-1610, if we have placed him correctly in the family at Annonay, and his children would have been young adults by 1661, starting families of their own. Thus, we conclude that the Andr� Johannot who settled in England was a grandson of Pierre, and that Andr� was also almost certainly the brother or first cousin of the Pierre Johannot who settled with him in Kent and married there. The protestant baptismal registers have generally not survived in this part of the Dauphin�, so confirmation will have to be sought through other records.
If our theory of the position of Andr� in the Johannot family is correct, how was he related to his wife? They would be first cousins once removed. At least some jurisdictions did not allow marriages of first cousins at this period, but there was no prohibition on the marriage of first cousins once removed. Andr�'s grandmother Sibille Floreton would have been the sister of Marguerite's father Antoine Floreton.

The death record at Eynesford does not give parentage. This Andrew cannot be the son of Andr� senior, who survived until the 1770's, nor Andr� senior himself, whose death is clearly noted in 1737. It seems most likely that the Andrew who died in 1721 was the young son of Pierre baptised in 1717 at Shoreham. Pierre was certainly in Eynesford in 1722, as he married Mary Holder there 26 mar.

Her joint testament with Magdelaine Peccat is recorded at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, dated 12 sep 1727. They had lived together for 40 years at the time they made their testament. Magdelaine owned stock in the East India Company, and the probate of her estate in 1741 required that a copy of her will be filed at Canterbury. 1741 should therefore be the date of Magdelaine's death, and we identify the death of "Mademoiselle Janot d'Annonay" recorded at Bern in 1729 as that of Anne.

Full name is given only in death record, elsewhere as Anne Johannot. Parentage has not been proved, though the name Esther in the Johannot family seems to be associated with descendants of Mathieu (son of Barthelemi) Johannot and Esther All�on. However, the only descendants of this line found so far are all connected to Jean Johannot and Anne Leorat. Parentage supplied by Louis Johannot, and listed by Le Moine and others.
However, Le Moine list her as the wife of "Jean Johannot of Morges, non identifi�". Le Moine did not succeed in contacting or unraveling the Swiss Johannot family, though he did find a trove of documents relating to a family squabble that involved most of them.
