Late in his life, Pierre's wife is identified as Anne Frossard. So far, no information has surfaced to indicate when the first wife died and the second was married. Anne Frossard also appears as his widow in 1640-41. Therefore, it is not yet possible to say which of Pierre's children belong to which mother, although it is clear from his testament that at least Magdelaine belongs to his first wife and Esther to his second wife.
Identified as a brother of George Gilliand in a transaction recorded by Antoine Richard, notary at Moudon, 05 may 1604 (ACV DL 80 fol. 26), followed by a document that appears to identify Claude son of Pierre Gilliand as their nephew (but the reference is grammatically defective, "Claude fils de Pierre Gilliand ses nepveux"!). The terrier ACV Fn 343 (1591) reveals that Bernard was the son of the late Claude Gilliand.
An document inserted after fol. 135 in the first register of Salomon de Trey, notary at Payerne (ACV DP 31/1), dated 09 oct 1603, alludes to a dispute between Jaques Gilliand and his brother-in-law:
Soit notoyre comme en ensuyvant les lettres de nos souverains Seigneurs et princes Messieurs de Berne encontre Jaques Gillan de Sassel par Spectable Pierre du Toict ministre � Mouldon obtenues au datte _____ par lesquels ledit Gillan auroit est� sur les difficultez entre luy et ledit ministre condamn� en prison � condition que devant qu'estre relach� il feroit serment de plaisser cy apres ledit ministre � repos sans plus le molester: Le neufiesme d'Octobre 1603 ledit Gillan pour satisfayre aux susdites lettres auroit promis et jur� entre les mains d'honnorable Prudent et vertueux Seigneur Pierre Freiderich Chaffner � Payerne de se deporter de toutes recerches et pretentions contre ledit ministre et les siens, et se conformer entierement aux droits et prononciations entr'eux faites, sans les vouloir en fa�on que ce soit ny luy ni les siens. Et d'autant que parmi les susdites difficultez ledit Gillan auroit prefer� plusieurs propos injurieux, tant contre ledit ministre, que contre feu Jaques Gillan son beaupere, Iceux ont est� par ledit Seigneur Chaffner entierement assopis et pacifiez...
