He may be related to a contemporary Reymond Favre of Rolle, as well as the notaries Etienne and Michel Favre cited in the late 16th Century at Aubonne. The surname was in the area as early as 1369 (a Henricus Faber at Pampigny, bourgeois d'Aubonne). It is very likely that the "terriers" of Aubonne and the surrounding villages will eventually provide a more complete history of the family.
Verbal testament of his wife, dictated while she was sick from the plague, was presented at his request from testimony of witnesses before a court headed by Jean Barbier, and recorded by Claude Mayor, notary at Ballens, 21 sep 1597 (ACV DB 26/3 fol. 177). Germande named her husband Bernard Favre as her heir, leaving it to his judgement to distribute this inheritance to her nephews Daniel son of Claude Favre, Daniel son of Rod Malot (Mabot?), and Gabriel son of Claude Favre. From this document, we infer that Bernard and Germande probably had no children of their own. Also, it seems logical to infer that Claude Favre was another brother of Bernard, although he is not named in several "reconnaissances" involving the other two brothers of Bernard.
Believed to be a son of Etienne Favre because Claude's sons are named as nephews of the wife of Bernard Favre, on the occasion of her verbal testament of 17 sep 1597 (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/3 fol. 177).
Deceased by about 1585, or possibly much earlier, he owned property at Gimel, but possibly was not born in that village. By about 1585, his son Estienne was a notary and apparently the largest land-owner in Gimel (subject to the Baron of Aubonne). His son Fran�ois owned much of the property jointly with his brother. Another brother L�gier seems to have sold his share to the other two brothers and moved out of Gimel, possibly becoming a citizen of Aubonne.
Notations next to records of baptisms in this family indicate copies were send out in 1786 and again in 1794, likely indicating migration of the family to another town. He was identified as conseiller of Rolle at the time of his marriage in 1769.
