Elizabeth was listed as a servant for Daniel Ferguson age 64 widowed PA on 1900 census Des Moines Tp., Van Buren Co., IA, a few doors away from John W. Donaho family. She is also found in this household, next door to her widowed mother, in the 1885 state census.
In the 1925 state census, she has married Ira P. Green (his second wife), son of Isaac Green and Malissa J. Allison, and that census says her parents were "Ziffiniah" Donaho and Mary Bryant, that her parents were married in Illinois, and that she had lived in Iowa for 68 years (thus, arrived in Iowa about 1857). They were living in What Cheer, Washington Tp., Keokuk Co., IA.

His obituary was found in a scrapbook of undated newspaper clippings in the public library at Keosauqua, Iowa:
William Clark Donaho was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, on the 22nd day of February, 1874, and lived continuously in this county until Feb. 4, 1930, being at the time of his death, 55 years, 11 months and 13 days old.
Mr. Dnoaho [sic] has been a patient sufferer for over a year and has spent a major part of the time, since his affliction, in and out of the hospital, a part of the time in Omaha, then Des Moines, and the last two months in the Ozark Sanatorium, Hot Springs National Park, Ark.
Mr. Donaho is well and favorably known, and has been before the public in this county since about 1900. He was first elected as assessor in his home township and held that office for several years, and then was elected deputy County Auditor, and immediately following that was elected County Auditor, and held that office for two terms. The remark is frequently made that his records as County Auditor are about as complete as human records are to be found.
Since leaving the County Auditor's office, Mr. Donaho has been interested in the real estate and loan business in Keosauqua, Iowa. He had a large acquaintance, not only in his county, but all over the state, and transacted much business, much of which was very important. He was the local representative of the Chicago Joint Stock Land Bank for southeastern Iowa for a period of 10 years and more.
In addition to a host of friends, he leaves to mourn his departure, his mother, Florence Donaho of Mt. Sterling, and two sisters, Mrs. Zella Weller of Mnitoba [sic], Canada, and Mrs. Lizzie Roby of Milton, Iowa, and one brother, John E. Donaho of Milton, Iowa.
He was a member of the Methodist church of Keosauqua, Iowa, and was a member of Lodge No. 10 A.F. and A.M. of Keosauqua, Iowa.
One of Mr. Donaho's chief pleasures was to help a friend in need; and he has many a good deed to his credit.
Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the M.E. church in Keosauqua, Rev. J. C. Caughlan of Milton delivering the address, Rev. M. D. Cox assisting in the service, and the music by a male quarter, William and Wayne Davidson, [Ora] Williams and Walter Beer and a duet by Rev. and Mrs. Caughlan, [sic] Interment in Mt. Sterling cemetery. --------------------------- We desire to thank the neighbors and friends for their kindness and sympathy in our bereavement.
Mrs. J. W. Donaho. Mrs. Zella Weller, Mrs. Estel Roby, J. E. Donaho.
[4711] Or, depending on how the obituary is read, he may have died at Warm Springs, Arkansas, where he had been in a sanitarium for about two months.

[4706] middle initial appears only in 1846 deed naming heirs of William Bryant "late of Sullivan County".
She was murdered during a Memorial Day celebration in Cantril, Van Buren Co., IA, when Edward Hale, a man who worked for her father, abruptly shot her and then attempted to kill himself. The records were puzzling until we realized that Zora Dell had a sister Zella Mae.
Elkhart Truth (Elkhart, Indiana), 11 jun 1902: "Hangs Himself in Jail. Ottumwa, Ia., June 11.—Edward Hale, who shot and illed Miss Zora Donaho in the streets of Cantril on Decoration day, hanged himself in the jail at Keosauqua." Other accounts add that he used a towel to hang himself, and that this occurred on Monday, June 9, 1902. Another version places his death on Tuesday, June 10, and says that Zora was his "sweetheart". But where was the expected lurid account of the murder itself?
The story turned up under the names "Dora Donohue" and "Albert Hale": The Greene Recorded (Greene, Iowa), 03 jun 1902, "Jealousy the Cause. At Cantril, a small town 11 miles south of Keosauqua, Albert Hale, aged 21, shot Dora Donohue, aged 16, through the heart, and then shot himself. Hale approached the girl on the street and in the presence of several persons and almost without warning fired the fatal shot. He then shot himself in the forehead and both fell near each other. He will recover. Hale was a farm hand who had been working for the girl's father. Infatuation and jealousy were the cause of the shooting."
Somewhat later, a more detailed story appeared in the Davenport Daily Republican, 18 jun 1902: "MURDERER HALE CONFESSED. Told a Newspaper Man Why He Killed His Sweetheart at Cantral Last Week. Keosauqua, June 17.—Ed Hale, who hung himself in his cell last week, and who murdered his sweetheart, Zoe Donohue, of Cantral on Decoration day, made a confession to J. W. Rowley, editor of the Republican, shortly after his imprisonment. Hale, in telling the story of his relations with Miss Donahue, said: 'Zora treating me that way that day throwed me out of my wit and I didn't know anything more what I was about. I didn't realize enough to control myself until I got to Keosauqua. I loved Zora and I am sorry I killed her. I bought her a had last May and a ring in the winter. Both cost me $7.75. She made fun of me after I bought her the hat and said she was lying to me and wanted to see what kind of a lunatic I was, as she didn't intend to stick to promises she made to marry me. She said that to me when I was shelling corn in the crib in May. Some time after that, when she was in a buggy going home from Mt. Sterling, I met her and she asked me to get in the buggy and kiss her. I got in the buggy and when I went to kiss her she jerked her head back and spit in my face. It would take a long time to tell you everything and take lots of paper. No, I only shot myself once. I was shot in my breast several years ago by a fellow I was scuffling with.' "
