Daughter of Anthoine Delamorte and Jacobine Senn.
[14585] Contract recorded by Gabriel Binet, notary, vol. 19, p. 166.
At the baptism of her daughter Marie Esther 27 sep 1718, she is Marie Esther daughter of Estienne Friquet de la Perralaz, French refugee. This contradicts the equally explicit marriage record of 1714, which gives her father as David de la Perrlaz of Caen, Normandie.

Memorial inscriptions published in Miscellanea Genealogica et Heraldica (1904), p. 165, where listed as "... Stanis... De La Rochette", with children Esther Margaret Elizabeth D'Arcy Delia Rochette (sic) and Edward Augustus D'Arcy (without the DelaRochette). This suggests that there was a second wife, if not a skipped generation or a misread tombstone, and that the D'Arcy name was assumed by the son. If this is correct, the second wife would be a D'Arcy heiress. Louis himself must have assumed the D'Arcy name at some point, though there does not seem to be much consistency in its use.
Evidence of yet another wife is found in the marriage at St. George Hanover Square, London, 12 may 1802, where Louis is styled Louis Stanislaus D'Arcy De la Rochette, of this parish, widower. This would have to be his third marriage if the D'Arcy name was assumed from a prior wife. He died, however, only a few weeks after this third marriage. The notice in Gentleman's Magazine (1802, p. 877) reads: "June 14, At his house at Pimlico, aged 71, the Sieur De la Rochette, a celebrated geographer, universally regretted, for the mildness of his manners, by all who had known him." A similar notice, though without the exact date, is in the Monthly Magazine for that year, but it may be that this is simply a copy of the other notice.
Louis was a cartographer. Examples of his work were included in a world atlas published in 1806, occasionally offered for sale today. Among his maps in that collection is one dated 1781 of the Isles of Jersey and Guernsey, and one dated 1800 of India. On both, his name is given as L. S. De La Rochette, although he is known in various modern sales catalogues as Louis S. D'Arcy Rochette. Other maps include North America 1765 and Lower Egypt 1802.
Conspicuously absent from the documentation discovered so far is any mention of his origins and professional training.
On the occasion of his first marriage, the license at the Vicar General's Office (FHL microfilm 0368942, vol. 138 of marriage licenses) includes his very clear signature, "Lewis Stanislas Gappian Delarochette" and says that he is age 24 and has resided in the parish of St. Martin's in the Field for at least four weeks, dated 02 mar 1756:
Which day appeared personally Lewis Stanislas Gappian Delarochette of the Parish of Saint Martin in the Fields in the County of Middlesex and made oath that he is a batchelor of the age of twenty four years and upwards and that he intends to intermarry with Margaret Scale of the same parish spinster of the age of twenty five years and upwards, he not knowing or believing any Impediment by reason of any Precontract entered into before the twenty-fifth day of March 1754, Consanguinity, Affinity or any other Cause whatsoever to hinder the said intended marriage... To be married at St. Martin in the Fields where both partners have resided for the space of four weeks and upwards last past...
(The ages given in the marriage licenses are worded to indicate that, in this case, the groom had most recently passed his 24th birthday, and the bride, her 25th. These figures are taken to be accurate representations of their respective ages.)
There are several documents in the UK National Archives that mention a presumed French spy during the American Revolution, a certain M. de la Rochette of Pimlico. We have not been able to establish that Louis Stanislaus actually lived at Pimlico in that period, nor that the reference actually was intended to pertain to him, nor that the accusation of spying for the French was true. It may be that rumors of French spies were widespread at that period. However, a more informative reference to the same person is found in Marat Inconnu, a biography of Jean-Paul Marat, the famous French Revolutionary, by Augustin Cabans (1891). Cabans recounts the genesis of one of Marat's early writings, a book published in 1773 in London, A Philosophical Essay on Man. The career and reputation of this M. de Larochette seems to preclude identifying him with our Louis Stanislas, but might the cartographer have been the son or nephew of this man, perhaps even inheriting his residence in Pimlico?
(The French gentleman in question was the secretary of the Duc de Nivernais, Louis Jules Barbon Mancini-Mazarini, in England to negotiate the peace treaty with England in 1762. The secretary, some of whose correspondence has survived in Paris, was Alexandre Andr Robert d'Hilaire de la Rochette, or possibly de Saint-Hilaire de la Rochette, "trsorier de la marine" in Qubec, 1758-1760. If this information is correct, we are still a long way from learning the origins of the cartographer. Further references to apparently the same M. de la Rochette, still in Pimlico, are noted as late as the 1770's, when British agents suggested he might be a spy for the French.)
He was a correspondent of the famous General Francisco de Miranda, Venuzuelan revolutionary and patriot. The volume of the published description of the archives of the General Miranda covering his travels (Viajes, 1929) mentions him on pages 25, 120, 139, 352, 353, 358, 366, 399, and 431.
Apart from the fact that most of his maps seem to have been published by William Faden (1750?-1836), there seems to be no information about how he became so skilled or so famous.

A document recorded by Jean Maquelin, notary at Vevey, 18 jul 1625, involves Pernette and Jaquemaz daughters of Abraham Dutoit, and the inheritance from their aunt Barthollomie Delevy. Thus, their father Abraham Dutoit cordonnier was in fact the son of Rod Dutoit who married Gasparde Delevy.
