[12533] Robert Day was made freeman in Massachusetts on 6 May 1635. He was one of the original proprietors of Hartford, CT, and a prominent citizen. His homelot in 1639 was on the road from Centinel Hill to North Meadow, near the junction of the streets now known as Main and Village. He was chosen Viewer of Chimneys and Ladders in 1643. (See First Puritan Settlers by R.R. Hinman, 1846. FHL microfilm #908908, item 2). Robert Day's will was dated 20 May 1648 and his estate was inventoried on 14 October 1648, so his death occurred sometime between May and October of that year.
Emigrated to America in April 1634. He was at that time thirty years of age, and was accompanied by his wife, Mary, aged twenty eight, as is gathered from the list of passengers of the bark Elizabeth, in which he took passage from Ipswich in England to Boston in New England.
[12527] Robert remained in Cambridge for about two years, then went to Hartford, CT.

This child not mentioned in The Foote Family
Married Anna Chapman of Colchester, CT

[10541] In many of the early records, the surname was spelled "Dey".
Revolutionary War pension file of Samuel Day (#S.10530) includes the following personal information: Born 6 February 1753, Colchester, CT. While residing in Colchester, Samuel Day enlisted the latter part of July 1775, and served in the Connecticut Troops as a private in Captains Abijah Rowlee's and Hezekiah Holdridge's Companies and in Colonels Huntington's, Wyllys' and Durkee's Regiments. Length of service, one year and about five months; he volunteered, went to Rhode Island and served two months; and in the spring of 1778, enlisted and served two months, exact dates and names of officers for the last two terms are not stated.
After the close of the Revolution, he moved to Cambridge, Washington Co., NY, of which place he was a resident when he was allowed pension on his application executed May 12, 1818.
He died August 31, 1835, place not shown but thought to be Cambridge, NY.
There are no data as to soldier's family.
[10545] NARA Rev. War Pension and bounty land records (file S.10.530) show that Samuel Day enlisted, 4 Feb. 1778, as Pvt. in Capt. Roswell Grant's Co.; Col. Obadiah Johnson's Reg't, in Rhode Island. Residence, Stafford, CT. Earlier, he had enlisted July 1775 and for 5 months was a Pvt. in Capt. Abijah Rowlee or Rowley's Co.; Col. Willis Huntington, CT. He also served for a year under Hezekiah Holderidge and Robt. D. Huntington.
For his service as a Continental Soldier from Connecticut, Samuel received a pension of $73.33 per annum. Pension Certificate #20409 was issued 5 September 1833.
[14986] June 2007, Found on internet: American Pioneer Families, J.M. Dale entry, shows marriage to be about 1784, probably in Tolland Co, CT. Also shows Mary Day with birthdate of 1785 instead of 1783. This probably needs to be checked out. I have never been able to locate this marriage. If the marriage did occur in 1774 (as per my d.b.) there was a big gap between marriage & date the first child was born. Maybe due to Samuel being involved with service in Rev. War and away from home? If the marriage was as late as 1783, Elizabeth would have been about 28 years old.
Conflicting data appears in the records for Turnpike Cemetery, Cambridge, Washington Co., NY. Grave marked as Rev. Soldier, but service noted as Pvt. in Albany Co., Militia, 16th Reg't and that he had Land Bounty rights. Is it possible that he served in both CT and NY?
Samuel Day b. 2-6-1753, CT; d. 8-28-1835, NY; Pvt. CL, CT, PNSR; married to Elizabeth Goodrich.
Date of death shown in military record is 31 Aug. 1835.
Buried in 3rd Row, Old Turnpike Burying Ground, Turnpike Rd., Cambridge, NY. Tombstone reads: 1752 - 8/28/1835, age 83.
Died 1835, Aug. 28, aged 82 years. Pvt. Albany County Militia, 16th Reg't. Land Bounty Rights. (This entry differs from that of Cambridge Town Historian and does not agree with Rev. War records).
Cambridge, 35 miles northeast of Albany. In Apr. 1815, the former Town of Cambridge was subdivided into three towns: Cambridge, Jackson and White Creek. Cambridge extends to Hoosac River.....the post-office is called Buskirk's Bridge or Cambridge.....
[10550] Description of area may help at some future date. Hartford is 54 miles north and east of Albany. Early records of Cambridge shows the presence of Edward and Edmund Wells, who tie in with the Day and Goodrich families.
Oct. 2007: WA Co, NY website has article by Geo. McCabe of Lincoln, NE re the inhabitants of the Embury-Wilson Patent. In 1780 a law was passed forgiving quit-rents on lands where occupants were obliged to leave during Rev. War. Today the area of this patent is largely in White Creek with a small portion in Jackson and the remainder in VT. Names of the original patentees does not include anyone named Day (most names sound Scottish) and it can only be assumed that Samuel Day arrived after his service in the war. Perhaps he served in the area? The Day family can be found in Albany Co. in the 1790 census. See pg 680 of French's Gazetteer of New York State for additional info about Cambridge.
Samuel Day, Pvt. Continental Line; CT pensioner; married Elizabeth Goodrich.

[10567] In the printed version of Vosburgh's church records, the birthdate for Samuel Day, Jr. was given as 22 Aug. 1794. Birthdate for his brother, Charles Whiting Day, was given as 20 June 1794. It was obvious that one of these dates was in error. From the naming pattern in this particular family, it was assumed that Samuel was the oldest son and it was his birthdate that was in error. This microfilmed copy of the original typescript confirms my suspicions. Unfortunately, place of birth was not given.
Typscript from NYG&B shows that errors were made in transcription when this volume was reprinted by The Sleeper Co., 1994.
Date of baptism was 16 Aug. 1795, not 10th, as shown in printed records.
