He married (1) Claudine Dutoit, and (2) Susanne Lescheyres. A document recorded by Abraham Ballif (?), notary (ACV DP 1/1), dated 02 apr 1688, concerns a division of property among the heirs of the late Claudine Dutoit, first wife of Balthazard Crausaz. She had three children:
Thus, all of the property in the estate of Claudine Dutoit went to Jean Crausaz, and any further property held by Balthazard Crausaz would go to the children of his second wife.
The register attributed to the notary Abraham Ballif (ACV DP 1/1) covers the years 1685-1690. Parts of it are recognizable as the work and hand of Egr�ge Isaac Dutoit, whose unmistakable signature appears in several places. Based on the similarity of the handwriting, we suspect the entire register was actually created by Isaac Dutoit, with the possible exception of scattered transactions that appear to be the work of a more youthful scribe (awkward hand). The document summarized above is a declaration of the cour de justice of Chavannes-sus-Moudon, rendered by Gabriel Bize. It is based on a request to the same court, also recorded in this register, by Baltazard Crausaz, asking that the settlement of the property belonging to his children by his late first wife Claudine Dutoit be judicially approved and recorded for the future. The request differs in one helpful respect: it identifies Antoine Dutoit and Jacob Dutoit as cousins of Claudine Dutoit, and it identifies Jaques Crausaz as the brother of Balthazard Crausaz.
The list of properties is quite extensive, including a house, numerous small plots of land (some of these plots and a granary owned 50% jointly with others not named), and a vineyard. Most of the property, and perhaps all of it, is at Chavannes. The precise limits of these parcels are not given in either document, nor is there an indication of how they came to be part of Claudine's estate.
There are several other documents that directly or indirectly inform us about Balthazard and his first wife Claudine. A transaction dated 25 jan 1664 (register attributed to Jean and Abraham Faucherres, ACV DL 40/2) appears to be a report to the local court concerning a recent verbal testament by the father of Claudine. Antoine Dutoit of Chavannes declares that during the (last?) illness of the late Jean Dutoit of Chavannes, he declared his will, that 10 florins be given to the poor; regarding his wife from whom he received no property, that her brother Claude owes him 300 florins; all the rest to his daughter, wife of Balthazard Crausaz. A report of a nuncupative testament would need to be reported to the local court within a few weeks in order to be admitted to probate, so Claudine's father probably died in the first few days of 1664. We can also infer that Claudine was most likely his only surviving heir.
On 02 jun 1665 (David de Treytorrens, notary at Moudon, ACV DL 88/2), Abraham Dutoit of Chavannes and Balthazard Crausaz, officier de Chavannes, split a parcel of land that they held jointly. This is very likely the Abraham whose son Jacob was later the officier de Chavannes, mentioned above as a "cousin" of Claudine Dutoit.
This Baltazard apparently survived until at least 05 apr 1702, when Baltazard and Abraham Crausaz are named as "uncles" of Susanne, daughter of the late Jean Chevalley and his wife Judith Dutoit (who had remarried to Jaques son of the late Joseph Favre of Thierrens), on the occasion of Susanne's marriage to Fran�ois son of the late Jean Fran�ois Crisinel of Dennens (Isaac Dutoit, notary of Moudon, ACV DL 37). This relationship seems to echo others involving Baltazard Crausaz and Antoine Dutoit, Lieutenant de Chavannes. Was Judith Dutoit perhaps the sister of Claudine Dutoit, first wife of Baltazard Crausaz?
In 1680, Balthazard, assisted by his "brother-in-law" Philippe Dutoit, came before the cour de justice of Moudon for an action against Antoine Dutoit, the Lieutenant de Chavannes, for cause of "injury". Which Philippe Dutoit this is, and the nature of his relationship with Balthazard Crausaz, have not been worked out.
