[15166] More research is necessary to determine which Chamberlain children belong in this family grouping. Elinor Smith in her Descendants of Nathaniel Dickinson, 1978, shows several children who do not appear in the account of the Chamberlain family published some ten years later by Ethel Farrington Smith in her article entitled Seventeenth Century Hull, Massachusetts and her People (NEHGR 142, 1988). She cited Prentice Glazier's Chamberlain Families of Early New England and New York, typescript (1973) but it is unclear where this article is filed.
It is probable that Nathaniel, Ephraim and Richard (mentioned in the Dickinson genealogy) belong in another Chamberlain family or another generation of this Chamberlain family.
He moved from Hatfield to Colchester, CT and remained there until his death.
Came to Hadley as a soldier in 1676 and removed to Hatfield before 1700.
Mercy, daughter of John and Frances (Foote) Dickinson.
Joseph Chamberlain married Mary or Mercy, daughter of John Dickinson.

He died intestate at Hull (Suffolk Co. Probate, 9:178; file 1027) and his inventory indicates that he cared for his parents in their old age.
He is traditionally believed to have been married twice, the name of neither wife being known. His first wife, married undoubtedly at Hull about 1651, died about 1660 and William married again the following year. His first wife may have been related to Robert Coombs or his first wife, Mary.
