Consacrated in 1630, deacon at Lutry 1631-1635, pastor at Oron 1635-1639, at Moudon 1639-1660, at M�tier (then under Bernese control, but as a result of the fall of Bern in 1798 eventually attached to Fribourg) 1660-1683. He was elected doyen of the Classe de Payerne four times.
At least one of the baptisms of his children has been missed, that of Susanne Elizabeth, who died at Moudon 06 feb 1729.
There may be confusion with the similarly named Daniel Burnand. Are the references to "Baptizard" and "Baptiste" Burnand in the early 17th Century simply errors for Baltazard, known to be the son of the real Daniel Burnand? Or did Daniel Burnat have a son Jean Baptiste whose name became confused with the real Baltazard? The confusion runs even deeper: was it Daniel Burnat, or Daniel Burnand, who married Marie Dutoit in 1601? Which one married Fran�oise Dutoit in 1598?
The few unambiguous references that we think we have found indicate that Daniel Burnat, notary, died before 20 sep 1602, leaving several children (on 20 dec 1605, minor children Pierre, Daniel, and Fran�oise are mentioned when their guardian, George Gilliand, buys property from Baptistaz, son of the late Daniel Burnat—Jaques Richard, notary at Moudon, ACV DL 79/3). This observation leads us to connect those Daniel Burnat, Burnan, Burnant, Burnand, etc. that share this profession at Moudon prior to 1603, on the supposition that they are all one person. This process seems to give reasonable results, but it needs to be verified against the notarial records and other sources. He appears first as "habitant" at Moudon, originally from St. Ci�rges. He was still a "resident" rather that "bourgeois" at Moudon as late as 1586. By 1583 he is a notary at Moudon. By 1588 he is "secr�taire", but apparently replaced in this position by 1598, when we find Guillaume Jaqueri or Jaquier as the secretary of the city.
The testament of his daughter Marie, wife of Pierre Pictet, was recorded 02 mar 1606 by the notary Antoine Richard (ACV DL 80, fol. 58), mentioning brothers Pierre and Daniel, sister Fran�oise, and a bequest that would come to Marie (or her heirs) after the death of her grandfather Pierre Magnyn bourgeois et conseiller de Vevey. Also mentioned separately is her brother Baptiste, although this name is not written very clearly.
He is called Battis� or even Baptistaz in the church records at Moudon, leading to the possibility of confusion with Baltazard or "Battisar" Burnand, son of the Daniel whose surname is most often given as Burnand or Burnant in the church records.
