Winthrop's Medical Journal makes interesting reference to members of the family. In 1660 it refers to "John Scot his wife wido Bliss her daughter." In 1661: "Hester daughter of Widow Bliss of Springfield she is like her sister yt died last winter." And in 1666: "Hester Foster wife of Edward of Springfield, daughter of Widow Bliss of S. sister of Elizabeth Bliss ae 26. They were twins."
The author apparently did not know that Hester and Elizabeth were twins. She had Hester being born in England and Elizabeth at Braintree, ca 1637.
Edward Foster marr. 2) 17 Jan. 1684, Sarah (Marshfield) Miller, widow of Thomas Miller.

There is a difference of opinion as to when John Bliss was born. Dawes-Gates genealogy has date of 1640, but the twins were born about then. He married at Springfield, 7 Oct. 1667, Patience Burt, dau. of Henry and Ulalia (March) Burt.
Death date shown as 4 Nov. 1702.

Married at Hartford, 26 Nov. 1646, Cornet Joseph Parsons.
Mary was accused of being a witch as early as 1656. The matter quieted down but sprang up again with renewed fury in 1674. Mary was brought to trial at Springfield and also before the Governor at Boston, being held in prison from March 2, 1675, until the following May when she was acquitted at a jury trial.
Margaret....vigorously defended her daughter, Mrs. Parsons, when under suspicion of witchcraft in 1656, but in 1674 a formal charge was made, resulting in the trial and acquittal of Mrs. Parsons.

The allegation that the son, Samuel, was 96 when he died in 1720 is to be doubted, as it would make him 41 at marriage and 64 when the youngest of his eleven children were born. He married at Springfield, 14 Sept. 1647, Mary Leonard.
The author shows a 1624 birth in England.

[13379] There were two men named Thomas Bliss in early New England, both born about the same time. One was in Rehoboth, MA and the other in Hartford, CT by about 1640. It is the latter that we are concerned with and there is not much on record concerning him.
There has been speculation that Thomas was married twice...once in England...with the first children being by that unknown wife. Other researchers name only one wife, Margaret, whose surname was thought to be "Lawrence", but now believed to be "Hulins".
There are discrepancies in the articles downloaded from the Bliss Family website and it is obvious that further research will be necessary in order to sort truth from fiction. The will and inventory of Margaret Bliss would be filed in Springfield, MA.
Born in England between 1590 and 1595.
...family embarked, it is said, at Plymouth, England, for New England, probably about 1635.
The date of his death has not been found...his inventory was taken on February 14, 1650....when three persons, including his daughter, Mary (Bliss) Parsons, of Springfield, testified to his deathbed statement that he desired that her mother, his wife, should have his entire estate during her life.
Date of marriage estimated from birth of first child. Some researchers believe Thomas was married twice. Until there is proof, we will assume all of the children were by the one wife.
