Not mentioned in her father's will, so possibly died before 1857 leaving no issue. She and her husband are on the 1850 census of Des Moines Township, Van Buren Co., Iowa, and on the next page is the family of John Baird her brother. She seems to have survived until 1877, so possibly her absence from her father's will indicates she had already received her inheritance in the form of a dowry. We have found no indication that she had any children.

OBITUARY
Once more the golden bowl is broken, and the silver cord is loosed; but safe in the Father's house, in a mansion, built beautifully from holy living, the subject of our sketch has realized the blessed reward for the faithful.
Rhoda Ann, daughter of John and Eliza Baird, was born in Des Moines township, near Keosauqua, Iowa, April 30, 1843; spending her entire life in that community, and passed peacefully away at the home of her son John Thursday, Jan. 24, 1918, having attained the age of 74 years, 8 months, and 24 days.
On Feb. 21, 1865, she was united in marriage to Chas. Hull, who preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1915. To this union three children were born, John H., George A., and Selena J. Loring, all of whom were at her bedside. Beside [sic] her immediate family left to mourn her death, she leaves 6 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, one sister, and many other relatives and friends.

1925 census indicates the family were Methodists, and gives parents as John Baird and Eliza Bryant. The death certificate gives his birth date as 22 jan 1853, age at death 82 years, 4 months, 14 days, but this is clearly inconsistent with the birth date of his brother Christopher Myers Baird, which is well attested. It appears his age as given on the death certificate (and appearing also on the grave stone) was incorrect. The informant for the death certificate was his widow Mary J. Baird (who signed her name). We think it likely she knew the month and day of his birth, but the year seems far more likely to have been 1855. His age on the 1860 census is 5, and that census requested the age of each person as of April 1, 1860. On the 1925 state census, for which the official census day is January 1, 1925, his age is given as 71, but the enumerator has dated the schedule on 28 jan 1925, possibly indicating that Thomas believed his age to be 71, a few daysafter his birthday. The schedule also notes he had only a third grade education. We believe the 1860 census to be the best available record, as it is closest to the event, unless some other branch of the family has bible records that have not yet come to our attention. The original marriage record, in Book G, p. 72, which might possibly give the age of the groom, has not yet been examined.

Codicil of Dec. 21, 1857: Provision is made for children of son Peter, now deceased, who lived in Ohio. "My son William shall not be an executor". Witnesses J. H. Osborne, John H. Anderson. Proved by Augusta Cutter, 1858. Proved and recorded June 7, 1858.

Evidently the William Baird who lived near Basking Ridge in Somerset Co., NJ at the time of the Revolutionary War. He was among the pew holders at the Presbyterian Church there. That he died in Morris Co., NJ seems to echo statements in John Baird's Revolutionary War pension file to the effect that John Baird first lived in Somerset Co., near the Morris Co. line, then later moved into Morris Co. after the war, apparently in the Long Hill area. Note that William's other sons were too young for the Revolution.
We believe the family story among the descendants of William's children in North Carolina should be regarded as valid; namely, that his son John was the only member of the family who remained behind in New Jersey. Further, we regard the contrary account of a John Baird who later settled in North Carolina (and sometimes attached to this family) as apocryphal or else pertaining to a different man. Among other problems, we see no evidence that the John Baird in North Carolina was actually born in 1760 or had any connection other than proximity to the other children of William. Consequently, we see no impediment in conjecturing that William's son John is in fact the John Baird born in 1760 who married Mary Bockoven and remained in Somerset and Morris Counties, NJ.
